Welcome to Our Weekly School News post.

An opportunity to share our learning with the school community. We also hope that families will find it helpful when listening and talking about what we have been doing in school.

School News

 

A reminder that we have a PTA Meeting on Tuesday 5th Sep at 6:30pm. All parents are very welcome to come along and join in. The PTA organizes social events for pupils and families during the year and your support is needed to keep these activities. Please do come along and find out more on Tuesday.

 

Class News

 

Primary 1

We are all settling into P1 well. We have learned two new sounds: s and a

Frankie says “six” begins with s and Eilidh suggested “story”; “seven” said Riley  and Zoe said “star”.

We’ve been to Ten Town and are enjoying learning our numbers!

We love having Brambles in our class. He’s a lion and he makes sure all the children are listening and learning well!

Primary 1/2  – Photos

We have enjoyed settling back in to school and welcoming the new P1’s into our class. Some of us were learning the ‘a’ sound this week so we made different types of apple art.

Lewis – “I made a boat.”

Gregor – “Look at my tower.”

Primary 2/3

We have been learning about 3D shapes and building them.

We have been focusing on team work and getting to know each other by doing team challenges. We have built ladders and towers together.

Some of us have been to taster sessions for rugby which we really enjoyed.

 

Primary 3

We have been learning about our local community.

“I enjoyed writing about my favourite place in Castle Douglas.” – Amelia

We have started reading George’s Marvellous Medicine. We are really enjoying it so far.

In music we have been learning about telling stories through music.

In Gymnastics Isla and Molly have moved up a level.

Lexi, Sam, Freya, Kianna, Isla & Ben W have moved up a level in swimming.

 

Primary 3/4

This week P3/4 have started their topic on what makes a community and have been enjoying talking about Castle Douglas.

 

We have also been talking about ways to handle difficult situations and have learned about “High 5”

 

Skye moved into the green group at Swimming and Lhlyaijana moved up to the blue group and Ollie into the yellow group.

 

Elle has moved into the red group at Gymnastics.

 

Hugo has achieved his white and orange belt in Karate. Well done everyone!

 

 

Primary 4

P4 each:-

  • Confidently shared their ‘All about Me’ bags with the class.
  • Selected a fantastic choice of interesting items to include in their bags from home.
  • Designed their paper bags creatively.

P4 began their Term 1 about Water and will be focusing on Global Goal 6 – Clean Water and Sanitation. They are working on an evaporation experiment and have made predictions about what they think will happen.

 

 

Primary 4/5

The class agreed their Golden Time rules. We also designed name tabs, buckets and flip flops for classroom door/walls

Taster rugby sessions/gym time.

Amy G was dancing in Kirkcudbright.

 

Primary 5/6

This week a mysterious bag arrived and we had to write about what we thought was inside. We used VCOP to help us.

We started to create Rainforest leaves to turn our classroom into a rainforest.

We have been learning about the people who live in the rainforest and where the rainforests are in the world.

Abbie W can now do her dive forward roll at Gymnastics.

Noah O built a Nerf Den.

Good luck to Lexie W that has a dance competition on Saturday.

Reminder that all children have permission for Cream O Galloway trip on 27th September.

 

Primary 6

Primary 6 have been learning about Victorian schools. We were surprised to learn that children could only go to school if their family could afford to pay!

We enjoyed being introduced to SAMSON Naths and meeting the new characters. We even took our mental maths outside. Katherine started ice skating lessons and Ollie and Elise began flute lessons.

 

Primary 6/7 and 7

Many of our P7s were at the Kingswood Centre near Hexham for a week of personal challenges and team building. We look forward to hearing more about their visit next week.

There were also challenges for the P7s in school which included problem solving and team work, den building and outdoor cooking.

 

 

Reminders for Next Week

P1 School Photographs Monday 4th September 11am

P1 – Please bring homework bags every day. Elmer Day Friday 8th please wear bright clothes.

P4 – Please bring your PE kit to school on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday every week.

P5/6 – If you have any old shirts that we could use as paint shirts. We would be really grateful.

P6- Stronord letter due on Friday.

 

Community News

Kirkcudbright & District Pipe Band are holding an Open night for any budding musicians, on Tuesday 5th September, 7-9pm at The British Legion Hall in Castle Douglas. If you’re interested in learning to play either the pipes or the drums then please go along to get more details. All ages and abilities will be made very welcome.
