Glogster EDU

We have bought access for a year to Glogster EDU.

Glogster EDU is a site which allows those with access to create fantastic online posters, or glogs as they call them. Here’s one that we have been using in P4-7 to learn the story of Eric Liddell. We used one below to share our Billionaire Boy display. Each glog can display pictures, text, graphics, videos and play sound. Glogs are a creative way for us to share and present our learning experiences and opportunities.

Whilst each pupil in P4-7 has their own login, I too have a login and can see and manage all of the work being created. I can also decide which work should be made public.

IXL Maths

We are currently trialling a Maths website with some of our pupils for the next month. Letters have been sent home with an explanation, username and password. Please see the link below or in Useful Links on the right of the page.

http://uk.ixl.com appears to be a fun way to practise Maths, and allows pupils to log in at home or at school. The questions and problems are clearly presented though do allow you, if required, to have parts read out, and if you get them wrong it tries to help you. It also keeps a note of how pupils are doing and rewards them as they progress.

As a teacher I would envisage using this to practise and revise previous topics, in class and potentially at home – though only where access is permitted. In time, I think parents could log in with their child and see how they are doing in the different areas.

If IXL proves to be a hit, for all involved, and not a one night wonder, then we’ll need to look at funding. Watch this space.

Welcome

Brydekirk Primary – The small school with the big ideas

Welcome to Brydekirk Primary News World, a blog of what’s going on at our great little school, in the south of Scotland.

We hope you enjoy reading, listening and seeing our work and would love your feedback.

PC Easthill Visit

PC Easthill came to visit Primary 1 – 3 to talk about road safety.  Here is a message from PC Easthill, some photos and reports of the visit:

Recently I have been giving Road Safety Inputs to P1-P4 and it was brought to my attention that in some, not all, cases that our young people are being transported in family cars without proper use of booster seats/seat belts. May I remind you that a failure to use these items correctly is an offence which may cost you dearly, not just financially, but also emotionally should something occur whereby a young person is seriously injured as a result of not using them correctly.

Even if it is just “Doon the road” please ensure we use booster seats and seat belts as the kids are yours and we need to keep them safe in all aspects.
