Our DCA Visit and More!

What a busy week we have had!

Our learningĀ in maths this week has been to match numbers to number words. We will be continuing to learn about this over the next few weeks.

We have been practising our sounds and continuing to try and sound out, blend and write three letter words.

This week we listened to a story called the Grufflao. We have decided that this will be our next topic. Both classes made a plan. We had lots of ideas!

We have started with a Deep Dark Wood in our classrooms and in the Active Learning Zone. We are going to pretend to be the characters from the story. We have a book to draw and write about our adventures in the Deep Dark Wood.

On Wednesday we talked about Diwali. This is the Hindu Festival of Light. We listened to the story of Rama and Sita. You can read it here. http://www.ngfl-cymru.org.uk/vtc/ngfl/re/b-dag/ngfl-container/re-unit3-en.html Then we drew some Rangoli patterns and some Mehndi designs.

On Thursday we visited the DCA in Dundee. It has a cinema and we went to see Film Shorts for Wee Ones. We went on the bus and there were lots of balloons on the stairs to show us where to go. We satĀ in a cinema andĀ watched lots of little films about all different things. We got a poster to take home.

When we got back to school we had to think about which film was our favourite. We all had to tell our teacher and our friends about the film. This is what we said….

Rory said “The thunder and lightening one was the best. When the man threw the phone and the lightening came.”

Nathan said “I liked the clooud. His head went to thunder and the whole house went on fire.”

Aiden said “I like the acorn film, It was funny when his hat fell off and he was in the bee’s house.”

Demilade said “I liked ALL the films! My favourite one was the cloud one because it’s so funny and I also liked the one with the acron. I liked it when he fell down.”

Ellie said “I liked the film with the little girl drawing people. It was funny.”

Flynn said “I liked the film with the dragon because the little boy ate the dragon.”

Brandon said “I liked the one when the boy put his head off. It was funny.”

Kayla said “I like the star film because the little girl got a star.”

On Friday we had a Fit Friday. Here is our Fit Friday timetables…

We had Rugby, Fruit tasting with Ms Gauld, Playground Games, Circuit Training, Basic Moves and a Judo session. They were all fab.

In our classrooms we also learned about parts of our body. P1a1 learned about the face and P1a2 looked at a skeleton. We talked about what all the parts of the body are called.

Thank you for all your comments. We have loved reading them. Please keep putting comments on our blog as we will be looking at it every week.
What a Gruffalo week we have had!
On Monday our homework was making a Gruffalo mask.
In school we have played in the Gruffalo’s Kitchen, games on the internet from www.grufflo.com, listened to the story in the reading corner with our MP3 players and played with the Gruffalo puppets at the puppet theatre.

We made invitations to give to each other for the party.

Then we went into the class for the party food.

DCA Visit

Our first week back after the holidays and we have been very busy practising all our Jolly Phonics sounds. We have been beginning to blend our sounds together to make three letter words and write them down. We get lots of practise on our magnetic boards and at the writing table.

We have been learning to recognise our numbers and put them in order. Some of us made a ‘Ten Green Bottles’ video to help us remember. We took photographs of our ten green bottles wall and then recorded our singing using an Easi-speak microphone. It’s hard work making a movie!tengreenbottles

In the classrooms this week we have been learning about the book ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’. We painted of all the things the characters met in the story and helped make a lovely display.

In the Active Learning Zone we have been learning about the book ‘Funnybones’. At the making table we made skeletons using black paper and white art straws and lots of glue. Our favourite activity has been ‘Sound the Room’. Funnybones left all his bones (with sounds written on them) hidden in our room and we had to find them and write them all down.

We had a trip to the DCA Film festival to see ‘The Varmints’ and ‘The Gruffalo’. It was a great trip to the cinema and we are looking forward to learning lots more about the story. We have been playing some games on www.gruffalo.com

Remember our trip to the park next week. Fingers crossed for dry weather.
