Lochgilphead High School Pupil Planner

Lochgilphead High School pupils receive a ‘Pupil Planner’ each year. The planners are issued to all four Clans and each Clan has it’s very own ‘Cover Design’. This coming August is no exception and S1 pupils were challenged to come up with a ‘Cover design’ during their art classes. The winning designs have been chosen and will be seen on each planner soon. Oban Dance Competition

Lochgilphead High School’s Fusion Dance Club competed in a dance competition at Oban High School on 25 March. They entered three groups; S1, S2 and Seniors. The S1 group danced to ‘Written in the Stars’ and won an award for ‘Best Presentation’ and were delighted at receiving the award for their very first competition. The S2 group who danced to ‘You Bring Joy’ and the Seniors who danced to ‘Radioactive’ thoroughly enjoyed the experience even though they weren’t as successful as the S1 group. Election Fever

S1 pupils recently held their own mock elections in school as part of their learning in the “Living in a Democracy” unit in Social Subjects. Pupils were divided up into 6 groups, each representing a political party and had to elect their own candidate. The groups organised their own campaign, canvassed support around the school and made their own campaign posters. A husting was held, where each candidate was able to deliver their parties manifesto of policies and promises. This was followed by questions from those in attendance.

BAG2SCHOOL IN TOBERMORY

Tobermory High School had a fantastic response to their Bag2school collection. A total of 110 bags of textiles were donated on the day to raise funds for the school, This is a great effort from our small school. Pupils have really embraced the challenge to beat last year’s collection total. In doing so they have helped to reduce items going to landfill and helped to contribute to the “sustainability” topic of the eco schools programme.

Mr & Mrs (Hostel Style!)

Dunoon School Hostel held a Mr & Mrs on Thursday 18th April. Steven Simpson Top Presenter and Co Presenter Mary Peek started the 6 couples off with their own intro music and videos. The multi-choice questions followed with a set of paddle questions. The kitchen staff prepared coconut hearts and delicious goodies with the Mr & Mrs logo on them and the hall was skillfully adorned with an array of heart decorations by our houseparents.

Tobermory High – Comic Relief

From the youngest primary children to the oldest S6 and most of the staff everyone joined in the fun of Red Nose Day. Crazy hair and pyjamas were the themes and most people rose to the challenge so there were some interesting sights in Assembly. In primary they baked cakes and had an impromptu dance contest whilst in secondary most junior pupils had bought senior genies for the day who carried bags, helped with work and in some classes lead a bit of karaoke.

Lochgilphead High School Young Ambassadors

Fraser MacNicol and Alistair MacVicar, Young Ambassadors at Lochgilphead High School decided that one job they’d like do while they were in post was to raise funds so they could buy new strips for school. Together they organised a Non Uniform Day in November and pupils and staff in school paid £1 to come dressed in ‘sporty gear’ to show support for the cause. Tobermory High – BBC Schools’ News Report

On Thursday 21st March students from S1 and S2 took part in the BBC’s School Report, making two news reports. One group made and completed a report on the importance of our ferries to everyday life on Mull. They had already been to Craignure and interviewed some of the staff at the port and some of the crew of the Isle of Mull including the Captain. Argyll & Bute Seniors Football Tournament

On 26th March teams from five schools across Argyll & Bute competed at Lochgilphead Joint Campus for the inaugural ‘Argyll & Bute Seniors Football Tournament’. S6 pupils at Lochgilphead High School, along with the Active Schools Coordinator Jillian Gibson organised the tournament as a final opportunity for senior pupils to play competitive football for their school before they leave. Maths Challenge

Mr Priest would like to extend congratulations to Joshua Finnie (S1), Libby MacLean (S1), Bethany Walsh (S2) and Robbie Ireland (S2) who represented Dunoon Grammar School excellently against strong competition at the UKMT Team Maths challenge in Falkirk. After four rounds, including an intense relay race, marks were tallied and we ranked 15th place!

Film G Winners!

Congratulations to Ms McDonald’s S4 Film G team. ‘Tha an t-acras gam tholladh’ won the Film G Theme Award category for the film that interprets the FilmG theme – ‘Hunger/Desire’ – in the most original, engaging and inspirational way. Dunoon Volleyball Tournament

The Annual Interschool Volleyball Tournament took place today at Dunoon Grammar School. Dunoon had 6 teams. Each one played very well with 2 teams getting to the semi final and the final. Lauren, Luke and Jack went through to the final against a strong Kirn Team C who won the match. A great day was had by all the Primary 7’s and there were lots of happy smiling faces to be seen around the hall.

Red Nose Day at Oban High School

Oban High School students and staff report Rudolph has nothing on them!

More than 600 of the three varieties of the 2013 Red Nose Day noses were sold for £1 each at Oban High School for Comic Relief. Students and staff raised £1,063.68 to contribute to the international global assistance agency through a variety of activities including open mic performances in costume; face painting stalls and cake bakes. STRICTLY comes to Lochgilphead

Lochgilphead Joint Campus glitzed and glammed its way to raising in excess of £1000 for Comic Relief on Friday 15th March as S6 students took part in a Strictly dancing competition. The students had been training for months with dance tutor, Laura Sweeney, and their efforts were finally unveiled to an audience of friends, family and staff. This was one of the most glamorous nights the Campus has seen and the students should be commended on their efforts – and their bravery. Well done!!

Lochgilphead High School Badminton Players

The end of January saw a really busy time for Lochgilphead High School Badminton players. For the first time since coming to the new campus, LHS hosted the MAKI (Mid Argyll Kintrye and Islay) Badminton tournament. Four pupils (two boys and two girls) from each year group took part in the competition which lasted for the whole day! Everyone played well and the event was very sporting and although we did not win all the events, we did dominate and win the S3, S5 and S6 tournaments.

Tarbert Academy, Rock up in red

Rock up in Red ~ healthy living event.

Local produce, Kintyre teamed up with NHS Highland as part of their Rocking Red Heart Road show to promote the health benefits of using good wholesome local food. Pupils from Tarbert Academy took advantage of this and all had a great time sampling food and listening to the Barrow Band play their songs about fresh fruit and vegetables.

Lorn Mathsfest 2013

On the 12th February the Annual Lorn Mathsfest was held in Oban High School. Forty-eight S1 pupils were joined by forty-eight P7 pupils from the associated Primary Schools. The pupils worked in teams of four. To be successful team work was as important as mathematical ability. The Assembly Hall was a hive of activity as the pupils attempted to solve maths problems and puzzles throughout the day, one of which was in French or one in Gaelic!

Lochgilphead High School: S2 Outward Bound Trip

Outward Bound 2013

Eighteen S2 pupils along with two S4 mentor pupils attended The Outward Bound Trust Loch Eil Centre which is just outside Fort William from Monday 25 February until Friday 1 March 2013. Their first task was to jog from the centre to the nearby Loch Eil and then take a dip in the dark cold water.
