Pupils from Dalintober PS were delighted to be asked to give their ideas on what should be included in Campbeltown’s new play park at Kilkerran. Mrs Alison McGrory, from Kilkerran Play Park’s Committee came to talk to Pupil Council members, who then asked their class mates to give their ideas and suggestions from a catalogue provided by Mrs McGrory. The Pupil Council presented their ideas to Mrs McGrory and is eagerly awaiting the finished design!

Rosneath Primary School all pulled together for charity on Friday for Red Nose Day. The children and staff had great fun organising lots of different activities in our school Hall.
P2/1 organised a Red Raffle.
P3/2 set up a Cake Stall.
P4 organised a Red Bottle Tombola.
P5/6 made Red Nose Day Joke Books.

Lochgilphead High School Badminton Players

The end of January saw a really busy time for Lochgilphead High School Badminton players. For the first time since coming to the new campus, LHS hosted the MAKI (Mid Argyll Kintrye and Islay) Badminton tournament. Four pupils (two boys and two girls) from each year group took part in the competition which lasted for the whole day! Everyone played well and the event was very sporting and although we did not win all the events, we did dominate and win the S3, S5 and S6 tournaments.

Red Nose Day at Dunoon Primary

Dunoon Primary raised funds for Red Nose Day today. They sold red noses for £1-00 and the whole school wore the colour red or had a silly hair style! Remarkably some of the children’s hair styles were expertly sprayed with glitter and crimped! Each class was a sea of red ! Even the Janitor Mr Callum McIntyre (Who retires on Thursday 21st) joined in the fun!! The cake decorating after school class iced red nose biscuits and cakes to perfection!

Rothesay Pre-5 Eco Campaign

Rothesay Primary Pre-5 eco group recently visited their local newspaper, The Buteman to ask for help with their latest campaign. With the help of Alex Robertson, they are going to build an eco greenhouse made out of 2 litre clear plastic bottles. Only its not 10 clear bottles they need, but 2000 which is a very long sing indeed! The Buteman very kindly printed the appeal and with a poster campaign as well, the bottles are flooding in. We have counted 800 so far.

Southend Pupils Wear Something Funny for Money

Like schools up and down the country, Southend pupils dressed up and donated to Comic Relief on Friday 15th March. There was a Let’s Dance for Comic Relief competition and fun and games in the afternoon. We had one or two very unusual characters in class that day as you can see.

Southend Lifeboat Visit

The P1 and P3 class are learning all about lifeboats, lighthouses and the sea in their IDL project, The Lighthouse Keeper’s Lunch. One of the many activities this week was visiting the Machrihanish Seabird Observatory and the Campbeltown Lifeboat Station. Last week we had a splendid afternoon in the company of Mr Hector Lamont, who was a lighthouse keeper at the Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse. Mr Lamont and his wife were stationed at the Mull of Kintyre Lighthouse about 6 miles from Southend School.

GO ROSNEATH!!!

We are very, very proud of our Cross Country runners. At the annual Cross Country Run for P6 and P7 pupils in Helensburgh this morning our little peninsula school sent 14 runners and gained 2 x 3rd places, 1 x 4th place, 1 x 5th place, 1 x 12th place and 1 x 13th place. What an achievement!! ALL our runners crossed that Finish Line to earn a well-deserved medal.

Comical Cars, Coffee and Cakes at Ashfield Primary

The pupils at Ashfield Primary School held a ‘Comical Cars, Coffee and Cakes’ event to raise money for Red Nose Day. Parents and friends were able to relax with a cuppa and some home baking while the children washed and polished their cars until they sparkled! The pupils ended up very soggy by the end of the afternoon but great fun was had by all and we managed to raise just over £200. Thank you to all who supported us and were brave enough to let the children wash your cars!

Rockfield Primary School “Design a Bag” Success!

Schools from the Oban area were invited by Tesco to enter a competition to design a bag to launch their new ‘Click and Collect’ service and Rockfield were lucky enough to have the winner in their school! Our winning designer got his logo printed onto reusable bags and every family in the school was given one for free. As well as this, he was also awarded a £25 gift card for himself to spend and a £250 cheque for the school. Well done!

Rock up in Red ~ healthy living event.

Local produce, Kintyre teamed up with NHS Highland as part of their Rocking Red Heart Road show to promote the health benefits of using good wholesome local food. Pupils from Tarbert Academy took advantage of this and all had a great time sampling food and listening to the Barrow Band play their songs about fresh fruit and vegetables.

Rockfield Primary School National Writing Competition

Some of our Primary 6 and 7 pupils were delighted to hear that they had been awarded prizes after taking part in a national writing competition. The children entered a writing competition organised by Scottish Ballet that was based on the story of Hansel and Gretel.

Lots of fantastic pieces of work were produced by the classes involved and lots of hard work and effort that was put into the pieces of writing so everyone was delighted when a letter arrived to the school to inform us that one of our pupils was a winner!

BBC visit Rockfield

The children in the Gaelic classes in Rockfield got a huge surprise last Monday when a crew from the BBC turned up at the school! The pupils had taken part in some filming for Gaelic television programme “Dè a nis?” earlier this year and were delighted to be told by the television presenters that out of 16 schools, the pupils from Rockfield were the fastest on space hoppers! Tarbert Primary 7 Visit to Clydebank Museum and Art Gallery

Recently Primary 7 visited Clydebank Museum and Art Gallery as part of their WWII topic. It was a very enjoyable day when the class dressed up and had some hands-on experience with gas masks, gas rattles (very noisy), shells made in Clydebank (without the explosive content on this occasion), etc. The story of the Clydebank Blitz was very interesting and we visited the actual command centre at the time, a basement room in the library, where we made an electrical light circuit and passed morse messages to each other.

Skipness News meets Campbeltown Courier

Skipness Pupils recently welcomed Campbeltown Courier’s reporter, Steven Flanagan, to help them prepare the latest edition of their newspaper. The Skipness News has been running since 1991 and has a large number of local and foreign readers. The pupils were given ‘top tips’ on how to improve their journalism skills. They were very grateful for Steven’s help and contributions.

Barrow Band perform at Dalintober PS

Pupils at Dalintober PS were treated to a performance from ‘The Barrow Band’ today. The group promote healthy eating and were involved in an Open Day in the town’s Community Garden, but managed to find the time to fit in a visit to the school. Pupils loved their musical odes and we are sure plenty pupils went home singing about the positive effects of broccoli, kiwi fruit and carrots!

Parent Workshop Evening at Dalintober PS

A large number of parents of pupils at Dalintober Primary School attended Parent Workshops on two areas of the curriculum on Thursday 7th March. The workshops focussed on ‘Big Writing’ and ‘Active Maths’ and parents participated in activities and used resources that the pupils use in school. Miss Caroline Armour, Head Teacher, said, “We are delighted so many parents came along to participate in our Information Workshops.
