On Thursday the 21st February, Xin a lady from Shanghai in China came to Strone Primary school to talk to us about how they celebrated Chinese New Year in China.
We had an assembly in the morning and Xin talked to us about Chinese culture. She showed us pictures of people celebrating Chinese New Year and talked to us about the Chinese zodiac, the Great Wall of China and told us how to say ‘Happy New Year’. She also told us what languages were from what area of China. She spoke Mandarin and her second language was English.
It was a long presentation but we thought it was very interesting. After a well earned playtime we came back in and took part in Chinese activities such as Chinese writing, a Chinese puzzle and we made Chinese dumplings which were made using pork, cabbage and Chinese pickle. They looked lovely!
After an extremely fun morning we enjoyed a Chinese lunch with our special guests Xin and Reverend Mill, we used chopsticks and ate sweet and sour chicken, spring rolls and our dumplings.
It seemed everyone enjoyed themselves including Xin. It was a great day for the pupils and staff of Strone Primary. They learned lots of interesting facts about China and the Chinese New Year.
