Ten primary 7 pupils from Rockfield Primary School participated in the Oban High School Maths Festival 2016. The ten pupils were put into teams consisting of two S1 ex-Rockfield pupils and two P7 Rockfield pupils. The competition was split into two parts and one of the Rockfield teams won one section, after a closely fought tie breaker question, which saw another Rockfield team come second. What a great result! Thanks again to Oban High School for organising this event.
‘Strone Primary School celebrates World Book Day’
Pupils and staff at Strone Primary School had great fun dressing up for World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March. In assembly everyone was given the opportunity to show off their costumes and talk about their chosen book characters. Inspiration was taken from a wide range of books and a huge effort had been made by all. The children were given book tokens to encourage them to visit to our local bookshop Bookpoint, who have kindly donated a selection of books for the children to enjoy reading in school.
Success at the School Bulb Competition
P4 and P5 took part in the Helensburgh and Lomond school bulb competition recently. The hyacinths grown by all the children created a very impressive display with one winning the overall gold medal. Congratulations to John Smith who won first prize.
Five Pipers Piping at Tighnabruaich Primary
Five very excited young pipers were delighted when their instructor, Craig Campbell, arrived at school with not one set, but FIVE sets of bagpipes. They were extremely proud and relieved that they were able to get a sound out of them after much huffing and puffing.

Strachur Early Level Class Forest School
Our early level class have had two very exciting sessions of Forest School led by our P1-2 teacher, Mrs Leyland. Our Pre-5, Primary 1 and Primary 2 pupils have enjoyed getting muddy whilst developing various skills in outdoor education.

Forest Schools at Rothesay Primary Pre5
Amanda took us all on a Forest Schools adventure and invited our mums, dads, grans and grandpas to come too! We were learning about size and went on a hunt for big and small. There was a lovely muddy ditch to climb in and out of but someone got their wellies stuck and after lots of problem solving they were pulled out by a very long stick! Little did they know a troll was watching from under the bridge! Gordon and Jessica helped us to name all the things we found and sort them into big and small.
Colgrain Primary Crazy Hair Day
Colgrain primary pupil council organised a crazy hair day on Friday 12th February. Pupils and staff participated in the fun with proceeds helping fund our playground activities and playground development.
French Café at Garelochhead
Primary 3/2 at Garelochhead PS opened a French café for their families. Everyone had a job to do, some children were waitresses, some were chefs and some were kitchen hands. The children all had to apply for their jobs and speak in French to the customers. It was a great success and the class raised an amazing £73 for Cancer Research UK.
Young Leaders at Strone Primary School
Strone Primary School signed up for the Argyll and Bute Young Leaders Award delivered by Andy Trull the Active Schools Co-ordinator. 10 pupils have just successfully completed the training. After looking at the qualities that a Young Leader should have the pupils looked in more detail about how to organise activity sessions and manage situations. They quickly learnt how to adapt activities and even to invent new games.
App Specific Twilight Sessions
Cardross Primary School RTC are providing free Twilight CPD Sessions for all teachers and educational staff. All sessions are free and will give practical examples, help and advice on how to use each app in the classroom. Sessions will run from 4pm until 5.30pm. iPads and refreshments will be provided. STRONE PRIMARY SCHOOL GALA DINNER
On the 5th of February P5-7 hosted a Gala Dinner at Napier’s restaurant where we cooked and served a scrumptious dinner for parents and friends.
The evening was the finale of our ‘Food for Thought‘ topic that was a great team effort. We created a lovely menu using local produce, which included smoked salmon, venison and apples. We served 36 guests in total on the night.
OBAN’S ROCKFIELD PRIMARY SCHOOL CHOIR ENTERTAINS LOCAL RESIDENTS
Rockfield School Choir visited Eadar Glinn Residential Care Home to celebrate Robert Burns Day recently and performed a selection of Scottish songs, including two Burns songs. It was a lovely visit and the residents joined in with the children as they sang their songs.
The choir is planning to make another visit before too long and next time the school’s Folk Group and Whistle Club will go too – we’re looking forward to our next cèilidh already!
Bowmore has Gone Mad!
Today, we had a marvellous Mad Hatter’s Tea Party at lunch time! Some of us dressed up as characters from ‘Alice in Wonderland’ and others had some crazy hats on their heads! We were certainly a colourful school. Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee (our kitchen ladies) had proper teapots filled with juice and real cups and saucers for us! We enjoyed being ‘mum’ and pouring out juice for our friends.
P7/6 Performance of ‘Alice’ at Garelochhead Primary School
On Tuesday evening P7/6 at Garelochhead Primary School entertained their families and friends with their rendition of ‘Alice in Wonderland’.
The school assembly hall was packed with people of all ages who thoroughly enjoyed the performance. The whole cast and backstage staff worked extremely hard to deliver a fantastic show.

Tables Turned on Dunoon Observer !
The tables were turned on the Observer today, when the interviewer became the interviewee. Reporter Georgia Love was at Dunoon Primary School to interview head teacher Mrs Stewart, only to be asked to be interviewed herself as part of a school project on news gathering. She was expertly “grilled” by Callum Crofts and the whole thing was filmed by David MacGillivray.
Swimming and Badminton Success at Dalintober PS
Dalintober PS has been celebrating recent sporting achievements this week. Five pupils travelled to Glasgow to represent the school in the National Schools’ Swimming Championship. Euan finished 22nd overall in the 50m Freestyle with a PB. Astrid, Logan, Sophie and Claudia qualified a very impressive 3rd in their heat, and 13th overall in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay – the youngest team in the finals – also with a PB.

Strachur Primary Pancake Cafe
Primary 3/4/5 ran their own pancake café for Shrove Tuesday this week. They sold pancakes with an option of lemon, syrup or butter and charged 20p per pancake! While their customers waited, they could read the fact about Shrove Tuesday on the menus! Well done P3/4/5 and thanks to the cook, Mr Ferguson!
Sharing Practice’ with Parents at Dalintober PS
Dalintober PS held a very well-attended ‘Sharing Practice’ event for parents last week. Parents were given the opportunity to look at and interact with resources and materials being used in classes, participate in teacher-led activities and gain an understanding of newer teaching methods such as Reading Challenges, ‘Big Writing’ and Reciprocal Teaching.
