Paddington Bear

Hi Primary 3,

This week my story for you is ‘Paddington Bear’.

And below are the follow on activities you can do. Try to do at least two over the week. This week your handwriting task links to the book, so make sure you complete that task as well.

Paddington Bear Reading Comprehension

  1. Where does Mrs Brown say Peru is?
  2. Why do they call the bear Paddington?
  3. Where do the Brown’s live?
  4. How does Lucy describe Mrs Bird?
  5. What was the first thing Paddington did in the bathroom?
  6. Would you like a bear to come and live with you? And why?

Appologies, I made a mistake on the comprehension located on the school website. Question 4 should be ‘How does Lucy describe Mrs Bird?’.  (Not Mrs Brown)

Wonderful Writer  Find out some facts about Peru and create an information poster all about the country.

Book Review Print out the book review and complete (or create your own version)

Word Wizard Find out the dictionary definition of the following words and write them in your own sentence: stowaway, Left Luggage, marmalade, bitterly, earnestly

Artistic Ace Draw a picture to represent part of the story and write at least 2 sentences to describe your drawing.

Question Master Design your own Paddington Bear quiz or a quiz about Peru.

Handwriting Find out Copy out the following passage in your neatest handwriting or you can practice your typing skills. Then add an illustration.

Mr and Mrs Brown first met Paddington on a railway platform. In fact, that was how he came to have such an unusual name for a bear, because Paddington was the name of the station. The Browns were waiting to meet their daughter, Judy, when Mr Brown noticed something small and furry near the LEFT LUGGAGE office. “It looks like a bear,” he said.

P3A Monday 15th June

Good Morning 3A!

Hope everyone had a good weekend.  I managed to get to Callendar Park with my family for a walk. It was a bit wet but we wore our wellies!  We are getting extra fence put up in the garden soon so I was painting the slats too.  Painting a fence seems to last forever!

Well done to those who joined in with the Sumdog challenges last week.  Congratulations to those who placed in the top 3- you’ll find your coin rewards waiting for you!

New challenges, HA games and your Week 11 grid are all ready for you this week.  We are focusing more on Health and Wellbeing for the last 2 weeks so the grid looks slightly different.

Today I am heading into school for the first time since we went into lockdown.  This feels a bit strange.  Please still email any news and I’ll get back to you, it just might not be until the end of the day.

Tomorrow is a holiday so I won’t be online but Ms Occardi will be back from Wednesday.

Mrs Bell 🙂

P3A Friday 12th June

Good morning 3A,

I can’t quite believe it’s Friday already!  Only a few hours left on the Sumdog challenges today.  Like last week, I’ll add extra coins for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd places.

The new Celebrating Success will be shared later today too.  Have a look and see if your home learning has been picked this week.  There’s a great variety of work being sent to us.  Congratulations to the 3A Awesome Achievers.

Does anyone have any nice plans for the weekend?  Now we can drive a short distance, I am planning to go to Callendar Park in Falkirk.  There’s lots of outside space to enjoy a nice long walk.  I have my fingers crossed I don’t need my wellies!

P3B Friday 12th June

Good morning everyone, I can’t believe there are only two weeks left of school! I hope you have had a great week. Thank you to everyone that sent work this week, I have really enjoyed looking at it!

What are you doing this weekend?  I don’t have much planed, will probably go a nice walk somewhere with Elliot and my mum. Hopefully it stays dry!

I know everyone loved mindfulness colouring in class. I love colouring in too, it’s very relaxing. Here are some under the sea colouring pictures.

Under the sea colouring

Why not try this fun game! Let someone draw a picture on your back, think about what you can feel and try to draw the same picture! I might try it at the weekend too. Here is an example…

Here is a morning challenge for you all. How many words can you make? Each word must include the letter in the middle. Can you find the 9 letter word?

Have a great weekend!

Miss Ross 🙂

3a Thursday 11.6.20 Good morning.

Good morning, 3a,

Didn’t it rain yesterday! I did get out for my daily exercise, but I put on my waterproofs.

Mrs Bell and I have had some lovely emails this week. Thanks to everybody who has shared their work and other activities with us. We’ve seen writing, volcano models, photographs of deer and of craft activities. We send these to the office as part of our celebrating success.

Remember if you need any help, or want to show us what you’ve been doing, you can email us and we’ll get back to you.

Just for fun…

When it’s bedtime, Katie Morag likes to wear her bed and wander around for a while.

WOW! Today’s photo isn’t even upside down. I am an IT wizard.

P3B Thursday 11th June

Good morning everyone! I hope you have all been enjoying the learning activities this week.

I tried some origami yesterday, inspired by someone in our class who made a seahorse! I tried to make a jumping frog, I managed to make the frog but unfortunately he doesn’t jump! I will need to try again. Here is a picture of my frog and the video I used in case you want to try. There are lots of videos on YouTube you could choose something different to make. Send me your photos 😀

Money is a focus this week is maths, here are some money games to help you practise recognising and adding coins. Have a go if you want!

Story Time From Home – Thursday 11th June

Hello everyone,

Here is the link to today’s story.  The book was written by Nick Butterworth who is famous for writing the Percy the  Park Keeper stories.  I haven’t read this story in class before so it may be one you are not familiar with. It includes a very nasty rat but a lovely ending – I do hope you like it as much as I do ( and Tufty does – as you will see fom the video!)

3a Wed 10.6.20 Good Morning

Good morning, everybody.

I got a bit of a fright when I typed in the date. I can’t believe we’re almost half way through June. After this week, we only have two more weeks left of this term – and of Primary 3. I’ve been a teacher for 32 years and I’ve never experienced a year like this!

You know that I’m not very good with IT. To be honest, I’m hopeless, but I’m glad I’ve been able to keep in touch with you all via email and this blog. Please keep the emails coming.

Just for fun…

When Hetzer is told to walk at heel, he obediently walks by my side. Katie Morag does it differently.

Music Time with Mrs McWhirter

Good morning  Primary 3! Are you good at tidying? I have been tidying up all my  kitchen cupboards and sorting out my wardrobe while I’m at home.

Now I would  like to sort out the instruments in the Music Room! Maybe you could help me get started? I want to sort them by how they are played, some are blown, some are hit, some are plucked and some are shaken! See if you can sort the instruments in the picture . Then maybe you can add some of your own?

Which group do you like best?

P3A Tuesday 9th June

Good Morning 3A!

Thanks to those that emailed yesterday.  If you are able to keep in touch once a week that’s great.

Today’s extra activity is a fun one! Mr Brice has made a spelling hunt challenge again for P3 this week.  Look at his blog post from today to find the map.  If you are out walking you could try to spot your words.  Fingers crossed the rain stays away and you can find them all!

Send a photo if you try it 🙂

Mrs Bell

P3b Tuesday 9th June

Hi, after lots of positive feedback from last weeks hunt, I loved the photos of you with them, I’ve made a new spelling hunt for the day.  There are 18 words to find ‘ow’ words and ‘wa’ words, all written with chalk. Use the map below to help, or print out the attached sheet. Each black cross indicates where a word was written. It’s due to rain this evening which will probably wash the words away.

P3 Spelling Hunt

Yesterday I caught up with a couple of the programmes from World Ocean Day. I loved the short video about hammerhead sharks, the photography was stunning and I learnt lots. And I made a shark out of a toilet roll. Meet Pete the Hammerhead Shark:

Here is the video and the instructions:
