Things to do for P1-3

There are lots of ideas being shared around at the moment. High on most peoples list is Joe Wicks at 9am each day and the Glasgow Science Centre at 10am, and if you take part too then it can make the learning more fun.

Social media has many ideas being shared around, so have a look when you are stuck.
When you need some fresh air you could try some ideas from the Woodland Trust

If you like crafts then have a go at these:

P1 week beg.17th

A short and busy week after our half term break. The class have been sorting words into their sound groups. Which involved reading, blending and identifying the sound patterns. Fantastic skills and peer support given in the process.

Children have also been continuing to practice their number bonds to 20, and identifying numbers on a number line.
The children have a continued interest in people who help us, linked to the Katie Morag stories and island life. Over the last two weeks the children have been crating some sea pictures which link with their learning about the role of lifeboat stations.

P1 Week beginning 2.12.19

Thank you to all the parents who came to our music performance on Wednesday of this week.  It was so lovely for the children to share with you what they have been learning. The children had so much fun working with Dave Trouton on their listening and talking skills, and exploring instruments.

The children have been revising letter sounds this week as we have finished our first set of sounds, next week we begin the first set of complex sounds.

The children made some posters for our Nativity performance next week, here is a sample.

The children orally made up a story this week, which they will write and illustrate in their own books over a few weeks.

In maths they have been adding and subtracting within 10, using a variety of concrete materials, and some quiz questions about odd one out.

The children have been working on their sock snowmen over the last few weeks and this week checked that their eterprise gifts were ready, no snowman had lost an eye or nose before the Christmas fair!  They are excited to have them ready to sell.

Here are some of the children’s comments about their learning:

FW – I liked putting the pom-pom on my snowman.

IG – liked making the sock snowman although it was difficult to tie the scarf round his neck.

PP- the performance with Dave was fun.

SS – I liked playing my instrument.

IG– I was a bit nervous at the music with Dave,  but I’m ok now.  GG – me too.

And RC was so happy to receive her pupil of the week certificate

This week in P4

We have had a Mother’s Day theme running this week.  The children have been making/ baking/ writing over the week. I hope items arrive safely in one piece at home!

The children have begun exploring time and collecting information about planting seeds. It was quite a challenge to read the seed packet instructions and pick out the data they needed.

This week and next the children may come home with seeds to grow at home in eco friendly newspaper plant pots. When the seedlings appear, just plant the whole thing into the garden or a pot. the children should be able to tell you what they chose to plant!

We have also been learning about the story of Queen Esther in our religious and moral education, and we have had some interesting conversations about cultural behaviour of the time and the country.
