P4 Weekly Plan

Here are some documents to help you learn this week. I’m hoping you will be able to access them better from here than from Teams. If you can’t, then as always don’t worry. There are lots of other things you can do.

Some Roman resources for home learning!

Good morning,

I have been passed on this wonderful information from the staff at the Antonine Wall in Falkirk:

‘I wanted to just flag some resources in case you want to highlight them to pupils studying at home.’

Amazing resources for you to use at home to help support our Roman topic!

Kind regards,

Mrs Love

P1 Weekly Reflection 20.03.20

Well folks, what a week it’s been in school and I can’t praise the children enough, they have been wonderful!  Their smiles this week have made it worthwhile!

This week Primary 1 children from P2/1 class joined us for a few days and we have had great fun practising for our assembly which we shared this morning, sorry we were unable to invite parents and carers in to watch.  The children were amazing and all said their parts with confidence.  Perhaps they will tell you about it at home.

In literacy we have been learning the sounds aw  and are and we worked together to sort out real words from nonsense/alien words.  We learned the tricky words where and were, it was a wee bit tricky to tell these two words apart so please practise these at home.

In maths we have been learning about 3D shapes and had to sort some real life objects according to their shape.  Perhaps you could talk about 2D and 3D shapes at home.  In numeracy we have been practising our fact families and we did some addition and subtraction sums.

This week we have also been working on our Wellbeing Web and have talked about the eight different Health and Wellbeing indicators and the children self-evaluated each of these.  We’ve talked about how we were feeling and the children have been supported to share their concerns around the Coronavirus.

As the children leave today I have a mixture of emotions.  I will miss them all over the coming weeks but I want you all to stay safe and healthy.  Your child has brought home their home learning pack today and I hope you will support them in continuing their learning.  Please take good care of each other and I look forward to seeing you all back in school soon.

Mrs Clyne

School Closure

We note today’s announcement by the First Minister regarding schools closing to pupils from Monday 23 March.

We are awaiting further details from the Scottish Government, and will confirm details with pupils and parents/carers as soon as we can.

Extensive preparations have already been made for this situation and we will work to maintain learning and to support students at this difficult time.

P2/1 Weekly Learning Reflection W/E 13th March 2020

P2/1 have had another busy week learning lots. In Literacy P1 have learned two split diagraphs o-e and u-e and the tricky words one and anyone. We looked for them in a word search, wrote them in rainbow writing, made them on magnetic boards and played bingo.  In writing we wrote about our mums and what makes them special. In numeracy this week P1 have been working on adding and subtracting within 20. We played games and used Numicon and number lines to help us.  P2 have been looking for one more/less than, comparing and ordering numbers to 50.  We have used base 10 to help us. P1 have started learning a song and have taken part in a little drama in preparation for their assembly. P2 learned how to draw daffodils in art this week. We used our pencils to sketch and then we coloured them in using pens or pencils.  Here are a few of the children’s reflections:

This week P2 have been revising the spelling patterns for words with sounds beginning with fr-, ending with –ag and i-e. For writing this week the children designed hand wash posters. They had to list all of the steps clearly and draw pictures to go with each step. In numeracy the class have been making equal groups and adding them together. They have also been skip counting in 5’s. P2 also finished off capacity and volume, investigating which vessel holds the most water.

Coben – I enjoyed making pizza. We made the dough then we put it in the oven. When it crusted up we put on the ketchup. Then we put on some cheese. You were allowed to put peppers on your pizza if you wanted to. I put peppers on my pizza.

Emma – I enjoyed doing my spelling learning. I was spelling words with the fr sound.

P1 Weekly Reflection 13.03.20

This week we have continued learning about magic ‘e’ and how it changes the vowel in a word from its sound to its name.  We focused on making words with the o-e and u-e sounds and we worked on sorting real words from alien words.  We have also completed our sound assessments and Mrs Smith and Mrs Clyne are very impressed with the progress we are making with our reading.  Reading bags will not come home this weekend to allow us to sort the new reading groups and have the books ready for Monday.  In writing we were writing about why our mums are special and we wrote some lovely things.

In Maths we have been continuing with our number bonds and we were making kites to show the different number bonds to 10.  We have also been learning the months of the year and learned a wee song to help us remember the order of them.

In science we learned about springtime and we talked about it being a time of new life.  We learned about the lifecycle of a butterfly and we had to sequence the different stages of a butterflies life.

We started to practise for our assembly next week and have been learning some songs and making some video clips to share.  Unforunately we will no longer be inviting parents to join us at the P1 assembly.  While we are sorry this is the case we appreciate your continued support as we follow guidance surrounding the current circumstances.

P2 Learning Reflection for W/E 6.3.20

In literacy this week our spelling focus has been: a-e magic e, words beginning with dr- and words ending with –ad. In numeracy we have been counting in 2’s and 5’s. Our numbertalks focus is subtracting by adding on the difference from the smaller number to the larger number. We have also investigated weight and mass using the balance scales. Everyone enjoyed the World Book Day activities yesterday, especially drop everything and read! Today our assembly was led by Maleficent and lots of children dressed up as a character from a book. After assembly we were all invited to the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party!

Emma – I think it was nice to see everyone in costume and acting like their costume.

Nicholas – I liked counting in 5’s. I can count to 50!

Subhan – My favourite book is Harry Potter. I like Harry because he has a wand.

Lois – I like the book My Secret Unicorn. It’s all about unicorns and there is a girl who has got a nan and she went to her Grandma’s house and she bought a unicorn for her.

Austin – I liked World Book Day. When the bell went we had to drop everything and read our books. I was reading Hidden Treasure, it had ship and maps and it tells you where the treasure is.

Isaac – I am reading the Demon Dentist. The Demon Dentist was trying to take peoples teeth out.

Sushanth – I liked the Mad Hatter’s tea party. We had juice and sandwiches. We had a party to celebrate World Book Day!

Sevinc – My favourite book is The Naughtiest Girl by Enid Blyton. My mum read it when she was little and now I am reading it. The girl is really naughty because she does not want to go to school.

Rory – I was thinking why lots of people were wearing Harry Potter costumes today. It is because it is World Book Day. I like Harry Potter because he is a wizard and I like wizards.

Leo – I liked the tea party. We got sandwiches and the sandwiches were really yummy!

Euan – I liked weighing. I weighed lots of things to see how heavy they were. The water bottle was so heavy!

Lewis – I liked weighing. We used the pan balance.  If the arrow is pointing in the middle the things weight the same. If one side goes down it means its heavy and the other side is light.

Charley – I liked the tea party. We were celebrating world book day. We drew our favourite book covers.

Ziva – I liked the Mad Hatter’s Tea Party. We were having a party with Alice and her friends.

Coben – I liked the assembly today. We all said our favourite books and we got to dress up.
