P4 learning.

As I was renewing some of the diplays in the class this week, I realised that many will not have seen the finished pieces of weaving that the children did in class at the start of the year.  They look so good that I am leaving them up a little longer.

This week we have been extending our understanding of nets of 3D shape by linking our learning to our topic on flight.    We have been learning about the Montgolfier brothers who developed the first hot air balloon.  The   children were tasked with making a cube basket and hot air balloon to build on their learning, and further develop their craft technolohy skills.

We have also been out exploring what the perimeter and area of a shape are, it was great to see them problem solve and use the skills knowledge they have to try and work out the perimeter of the football pitch.

P1K Learning Reflection

P1k Learning Reflection for week ending 27.4.18

Weight

Nathan – if we put two shells the same in each one then the scales are the same

Holly –  if the arrow points in the middle you know it’s the same

Sophia – We are measuring the weight

Maddie –  in ‘snake and cake’ we changed the shape

Sophie – They were the same shape and weight at the start, when we changed the shape they were still the same weight

Emma – We had lots of feathers and the 1 stone was heavier

Sophia – Stones are heavy and feathers are light

Enchanted Forest

P1k are busy turning their classroom into an Enchanted Forest to help save Fairyland. They have decided the first thing we need to make is a huge tree!  We explored textures around the classroom and school grounds, collecting crayon rubbings from the different surfaces, some were: bumpy, smooth, patterned, rough, prickly, dented, soft and fluffy. The children then worked on their cutting skills to cut the crayon rubbings into leaf shapes, this was tricky because the children were trying to cut a curved shape and not a straight line!

Holly – We made the pictures have patterns

Nathan – Some things are rough

Maizy – the pattern on the lap top trolley had lines

John – it made stripes

Sophia – The ground made a dotty pattern, the ground is rough

Andrew – The lego felt bumpy and made a dotty pattern

Rayyaan – the wooden bench made lines

Comments on using scissors safely and trying to cut a curved shape

Maizy – you had to concentrate on not going straight

John – don’t run with them

Emma – walk with them

Nathan – with the sharp bit at the bottom and your hand on them not with the sharp bit at the top

Aakruti – you have to hold them properly

Poppy – Put them down on the table when you collect your scrap paper

Sophia – you can put them in their cubby when you are finished
