- Safe routes to school in icy weather: A reminder that path at Glen shee Gate (along Nethershiel Road) is not gritted by the school. If anyone in the community can support us with gritting, they playground on frosty mornings, please let the office know.
- If your child is going to be absent please ensure you have rang or emailed the school by 9:15am, failure to do this will result in having to use the next steps in the safe arrivals policy to ensure your child is safe. It is also important that you note the reason for absence if you send an email, or leave a voicemail, otherwise the office will have to contact you for further information. If you have a diagnosis of an infectious illness following a consultation with the doctor, can you please inform us.

Glasgow Institute of Architects Awards
We are super excited to share the news that JM Architects who designed Calderwood Primary & Nursery, have received two awards as shown below.
Children from our Thistle Clan, did an excellent job of showing the judges around our Calderwood home, enthusiastically sharing why we love it so much! At the time, they didn’t realise they were showing around the judges/

East Calder Scouts Santa Sleigh Event
East Calder Scouts are delighted to bring back our annual Santa sleigh event.
Santa has again kindly agreed to fly through the streets of Calderwood, Linburn, Kirknewton and East Calder, handing out sweets to children.
If you live in the Calderwood area of East Calder or in Linburn Santa will come to you on Sunday 11th December between 4 to 8. You can find this event on Facebook here:https://facebook.com/events/s/santa-sleigh-event-east-calder/2118316608360443/
If you live in Kirknewton or East Calder (not Calderwood area) you can see Santa the day before, on Saturday 10th December between 4pm to 8pm – you can find this event on Facebook here:https://facebook.com/events/s/santa-sleigh-event-kirknewton-/1455805141553049/
We will be making plenty of noise so you will likely hear up coming and you may notice ‘Santa Stop Here’ signs, popping up a few days before.
We are also in tricky negotiations with Santa’s lawyers on whether we can GPS track him this year, so you can see when he’s close to your home. If you show interest on Facebook for an event, we’ll keep you updated on this.

Capturing Calderwood: Book Week Scotland
Sustrans IBike Project
This year, your child’s school will be participating in Sustrans’ I Bike project. Your child’s school might have also participated during the previous academic year.
I Bike delivers a variety of activities and events. These include led walks and rides, Dr Bike, Bikeability, Active Travel Breakfast and bike maintenance.
This Parent and Carer survey is collecting data for the purpose of evaluating and monitoring the I Bike project. We are interested to see the impact it has had on you and your child and your thoughts on what could make active travel easier for your child.
Active travel is when a journey is made by being physically active, such as walking, wheeling, cycling and scooting/skating.
The results may be used to influence and support further local and national funding bids and help define the health value of physical activity and active travel. It will help to understand and continue to improve the project. Specific comments on local infrastructure will be noted but is beyond the scope of I Bike.
