It’s almost upon us. It’s the STV Children’s Appeal. Sean Batty and his team will be visiting us tomorrow! Remember to bring in your weather-themed cakes and your donations for this worthy cause. Also, don’t worry if you can’t bring in a cake, we’ll also be decorating cakes in our classrooms too!
We will also be having another special guest, Euan Buckley, who took part in CBBC’s Junior Bake Off show where he reached the grand final where his work was scrutinised by top international chef and food writer Allegra McEvedy and world-renowned executive pastry chef Graham Hornigol. Euan was also asked to create a “showstopper” cake to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday at Holyrood Palace.
However, we should remember that one in four children and young people live in poverty in Scotland, affecting over 220,000 people. For some families they have to make the heartbreaking decision each day as to whether it is more important to heat their house or sit down to eat – which one would you choose? Based upon such frightening statistics, the STV Children’s Appeal was launched in 2011 by The Hunter Foundation and STV. They came together to raise funds and to help make a real difference to those who need it most by providing help: food and warm clothes, creating opportunities for training and employability and enabling social and emotional support to those who really need it.
In just six years, The STV Children’s Appeal has managed to raise £13.7 million, providing much needed support to over 62,000 children in Scotland. Your participation and your donations tomorrow will make a real difference.
Thank you.
