Pre-loved clothing event

Last term Ochiltree took part in lots of upcycling projects and today was their final project as they hosted a pre-loved clothing event. They worked very hard to sort and lay out all the clothes, then today everyone had a job to do such as greeting the visitors and manning the stalls. This event also helped us mark the launch of our non school uniform clothing bank.

Some pupils and staff came along for a browse too!

Caroline from the Advice Shop also came along to support families with any questions.

Boccia & Curling Festival

Last week 3 of our pupils attended the ASN Boccia and Curling Festival run by Active Schools with the college students at West Lothian College.

We took part in lots of different stations to develop our throwing and rolling skills, and had lots of fun!

Term 2 in Glendevon

Sorry we are a bit late putting our review of term 2 on the blog and hope that all our families and friends had a wonderful Christmas and New Year.

Glendevon enjoyed all of the additional festive experiences including the performance, parties, Christmas garden and winter musical parade.

As always we have been working hard throughout term 2 and continue to use our multi-sensory space for a wide variety of purposes including:

  • to explore relaxation
  • to immerse ourselves in our topic story (which this term has included some of the beautiful items made through exploring materials in art time)

  • songs and singing utilising pupils different communication styles and methods

We hope to put together a wee video showcasing all the ways that we use the 4D room for the end of the year to share with all our parents.

Glendevon took on the roles and responsibilities of our facilities management team (Calum, John & Sandy) for International Children’s day and made sure pupil’s got their lunches, ensured paths were cleared and safe to use and daily school checks for security were carried out.

Glendevon’s eco representative has been hard at work in whole school groups throughout term 2 and focused on smaller garden spaces for Winter planting.

Glendevon boys have been exploring science concepts in messy science linked to our fashion and materials topic including; what materials to make our clothes from  and what would happen to different materials when placed in water.  Skills of predicting, showing preferences, retesting theories were all on display – brilliant work boys.

We are all ready for another fun filled term.

Winter term in Hopetoun

What a busy term we have had in Hopetoun class, there has been lots of lovely learning on display as well as lots of fun activities. This term we have been learning all about “my favourite sound” and we put quite a few of these together into our Christmas show with recording of some of these sounds like explosions, giggles,  and different types of music. We have also enjoyed drama this term where our naughty horses have caused chaos! We have also been out and about to see lots of different Christmas lights and listen to Christmas sounds. We even went into chocolate production! We can’t wait to see what learning we can do next term. Have a very Merry Christmas!

Lomond Term 2

Another term goes past in a flash!

What a fantastic term we have had in Lomond going on a bear hunt and experiencing lots of different sensories.

It has been such a fun topic for all of us and the children have enjoyed participating in all the different activities. We finished up with a sensory walk going through different materials in our bare feet – fabulous fun!

We have also been busy with the run up to Xmas and have allbeen enjoying our PE activities – especially the sleigh rides on our sheets!

All the children have made great progress with all their individual targets and welook forward tocontinuing the good work as we go into 2025.

Have a wonderful Christmas and New Year and look forward to seeing you all again when we return.

Ochiltree Term 2

We’ve had another super busy term in Ochiltree and we’re all definitely ready for our Christmas break! This term we’ve been working really hard developing our communication skills and have been enjoying lots of opportunities to use these across the school using our individual communication aids to deliver lots of messages. One of our favourite days this term was Universal Childrens Day where Ochiltree took over from the 2 Debbie’s for the day, we were so busy and we were all very happy to swap back!! We’ve been busy exploring a variety of different kitchen measures in cooking to make lots of yummy snacks and we have been participating in some cross class groups with our friends from other classes for PE, health groups and more recently for our Christmas activity groups. We’ve been practising lots for our Christmas performance which we’re all looking forward to showing you this week.

Merry Christmas to you all!

Drama in Hopetoun

We have had a great time in drama this term, especially with our horse riding sessions. Thanks to all our parents for getting involved and helping to think of names for the children’s horses.

Clopper, Sir Trot a lot, Shug, Stumpie and Bam Bam!

We all had fun trying to control these naughty horses. They would try and run away and we would have to try and tie them up. Freya had to tie Shug the Thug to her leg one week!!

Jackson had a hard time with Bam Bam throwing the hay everywhere. He made such a mess.  Indianna’s horse was very greedy and tried to eat all the carrots and apples.  Then Thea’s horse would not let her brush his mane. She found this very funny. Lewis loved switching the angry farmer who shouted at the horses for the mess they made of his field. Everyone enjoy racing each other too. Lots of hilarity, wonderful focus and fabulous interaction from our amazing children in Hopetoun with their horses and staff.

Will keep you all posted about our next drama sessions!

Glendevon Term 1

We can’t believe that’s term 1 over and what a busy term it has been.

We have enjoyed exploring technology this term including using the life skills area and through our topic of taking care of ourselves.

We made the most of our good weather by getting back on our bikes and using the drive deck to explore independently.

On the theme of health we have been making healthy foods and snacks in term 1 developing skills in chopping, mixing and weighing ingredients. Our Harvest healthy muffins went down a treat at café.

We have enjoyed taking part in messy art activities to make resources for our class charter and had fun with a food messy play for Fairtrade fortnight involving chocolate.

We are looking forward to lots more opportunities to explore our new topic of fashion through our playboxes, sensology and multi-sensory sessions this term.
