Circus drama

Roll up, Roll up and welcome to the circus!

In drama Glendevon, Lomond, Lammermuir and Thea and Indiana from Hopetoun have been at the circus developing their independence skills over the past few months.

They have been exploring the big top tent, helping the  rocket man zoom up high, taking a risk on the tightrope and taking part in a wonderful light show. Well done everyone!

Jungle drama

All the primary classes plus Ochiltree in the secondary have been taking part in some drama focussing on the jungle.

They have been explorers in a journey through the jungle, walking through the vines, experiencing the warm wet conditions, picking bananas to feed the monkeys and fruit bats., chased and sprayed by the head of the elephant herd. They have even been pretending to be a rhino and charging at a tree, discovering jumping frogs under a rock and swimming in a river whilst being chased by a crocodile!!! Such adventures and everyone enjoyed something from this.

Looking forward to more exciting adventures ahead.

December in Glendevon

What a  busy term we have had in Glendevon! The children have firstly enjoyed cross class, mixing with other children around the school in outdoor activities. They were involved in singing, stories, circle games, litter picking or sensory play every week.

Then we were hard working with crafting Christmas things and it was lovely to see the whole class actively involved in this. We also explored different types of winter messy play and lots of practicing and preparation for the Christmas show….which of course was fab!  All the children coped so well with this. Well done Glendevon children!!

Merry Christmas everyone and a Happy New Year!!!

Busy first term in Glendevon

The children have settled into school life well, adjusting to their new classroom, peers and teachers fine.

This term we have been learning about day and night, exploring that the moon comes out at night and the sun comes out in the day. We have also investigated what animals that come out in the night and day. The children loved playing a sleeping game and waking each other up with a rooster sound, lots of laughing during this!

We have also been enjoying walks in the community, investigating the changes in seasons.

We will look forward to next term-being busy with autumn, fireworks and winter themed activities. Enjoy your October holidays!

Lomond have been busy Beatlie bees

We have been extremely busy in Lomond class with science and engineering week- making a ball machine that activates a bubble blower, making  boats for the water tray outside and created a snack train. Not to mention Fairtrade fortnight activities and Easter too.

For Comic relief we explored red in sensory play which everyone enjoyed, dressed up as super heros and carried out a hunt for red noses around Craigshill.  Madison loved ticking off the noses we found on the checklist while Tommy and Angel spotted the noses.

DING DING!! We have also been developing our cycling skills this term out and around in the community of Craigshill. Madison has developed her confidence in cycling outside on the bike. Tommy and Angel are enjoying cycling independently and they are starting to learn how to steer the bike. We will continue with developing their skills next term. Well done Lomond!

Access walk in the Pentland hills

A group of secondary children- Andrew, Nathan, Amy, Emily and Lauren visited Harlaw visitors centre in the Pentland hills this week. The regional park have created lovely accessible paths for wheelchair users around the Pentland hills. We went for a lovely walk around the reservoir, exploring the nature around us, very beautiful. Nathan especially enjoyed looking around on the walk around the reservoir.

The children also helped to make a bug hotel using a drill and took part in pond dipping too. We found a newt and a few other creatures too. Lauren was not impressed by our catch lol! However she enjoyed watching her friends. Amy laughed and giggled the whole time she was using the net to catch the pond life and didn’t want to let go of it! Andrew and Emily were very interested in helping to make the bug hotel. Andrew was focused using the drill and Emily loved listening to the sound of the drill. This would be a wonderful place for other classes and their families to visit. A round trip around the reservoir takes about an hour to walk.

Outdoor Learning

This term Glendevon and Ochiltree have been very creative collecting different resources from the forest floor to use as tools in art. We have painted by rolling pine cones, swishing with fir tree branches, pressing with stones, rolling with conkers. We have even used other shaped branches to create patterns in paint. We realise now we don’t need to buy paintbrushes again!

We also made our own natural paints using beetroot, spinach, cocoa, raspberries from our garden and turmeric too. We had great fun mixing and adding baking soda to the beetroot made the red colour change to violet!

As well as this we have also been working on a Christmas project too which you will receive soon.

Merry Christmas everyone

Outdoor learning

Hello everyone,

I just wanted to let you know I am back from maternity leave and so pleased to be back. I’m excited to we working with the children in Glendevon and Ochiltree classes  this year. With me they will be focussing a lot on exploring the outdoors, what is growing in the Beatlie garden each season and what changes happen throughout the year in the garden and community too.  We will be using our senses to explore and possibly create seasonal art as we investigate.

This term we have started to look at the flowers and fruit growing in the garden and the community. The children have already taken photos of the flowers they see, created a flower scavenger hunt from their photos for their peers to find them in the garden. We have discovered we have a lot of colourful flowers in the garden, especially pink. The children also have been making sensory flower bottles which they have enjoyed shaking and exploring the shapes and colours moving about in the water. I will keep you updated on our learning this term.
