p6h

Thank you to all those who came along to our ‘Meet The Teacher Evening’.  It was great to see so many Parents/Carers , and it was lovely to meet you all. Mrs Haddifon.

P6H are thoroughly enjoying our Space topic.  We researched lots of facts and wrote letters as Astronauts leaving on a space mission.  We also used wax resistancy methods to create space scenes, and created some fantastic pictures.  As we go forward with our space mission we are going to build a six foot model of a Space Shuttle, looking at all the different parts it has.  So if you have any spare newspapers we would really appreciate you sending them in for our papier mache.

We also had our first try at Countdown Spelling this week, which went well.  We all enjoyed it and not even Mrs Haddifon’s dancing put us off!

Primary 6a

After the success of the P6 show, The Wizard of Oz, last week P6a have been settling back into some hard work in the classroon.

The Red group have been busy working on their subrtaction. The Blue, Maroon and Green groups ahve been learning about division.

Chloe: I learned how to divide with and without remainders. It was fun.

On Tuesday P6 went to a Hockey and Basketball festival at Bathgate Academy where the children competed in teams against other local schools. Two of our teams managed to gain third place, one in hockey and the other in basketball. A big well done to all the children who competed the medals for the winners should arrive next week.

Antonia –  My team played excellently with boys and girls working well together. I really enjoyed the hockey where I managed to score 5 times.

Also this week we have been looking at Climate Change and coming up with our own ideas about how to heat water or keep buildings warm using less energy. There have been some interesting ideas, including using sheep to mow your lawn instead of a lawn mower!

Almost there for P6a…

No, not the holidays – our marble jar. We only have 4 more marble to go until we get a reward (we hope!). We are going to spin the Wheel of Fortune (ok, really the reward wheel but just as exciting) to see what our reward will be. Fingers crossed for the four marbles.

We were very sad to hear of the passing of Nelson Mandela and have taken a bit of time out of our Jacobites topic to learn more about his life.

Nelson Mandela showed South Africans that white people and black people should be treated the same. (Paul)

He changed the world. (Taylor)

He was an inspiring man because he helped people to see the good in others. (Kendal)

He changed our world by making sure that everyone in South Africa had the same opportunities. (Jay)

Miss Anderson’s writing group have been writing biographies.

Mahatma Ghandi – Jack, Callum, Adam, Kendal and Antonia

Roald Dahl – Jay, Harry and Lauren U

Helen Keller – Emily

We had a trip to the Regal theatre to see Aladdin. It was funny.

Only reading homework this week!

P6a Get Animated!

For the last few weeks we have been learning about animation and how to create animations. Last week we created 3D animations and this week we created 2D animations. We worked in our Clan Teams for these tasks.

Here are a few examples

Grant Clan

Murray Clan

MacDonald Clan

Stewart Clan

MacLeod Clan

Campbell Clan

We used Stop Go animation for these videos.

It was the P6 party this week and we all had a great time. We would like to say thank-you to all the adults (and P7 carers) who made it all possible –  THANK-YOU!

We thought that the other P6 class did brilliantly in their assembly and we really enjoyed their singing and all the facts that they shared with us.
*****Pupil of the Week is Callum*****

Lauren C won the Drama award for the month.

Busy busy week for 6M!

This week we have been busy practising for our class assembly 🙂 It is on Friday and we hope you can make it! We chose two of our favourite Christmas songs ever to sing! 🙂 We had a wonderful Wednesday afternoon….it was our Christmas party and we played loads of party games and enjoyed our party food.  Have a look at our pictures!  We have also been busy practising songs for the Church Service.  We have been trying hard to practise our long multiplication sums in maths and we are finding it a bit tricky!

Introducing Dorothy

This week Miss Anderson was very excited to act like Andrew Lloyd-Webber and say

“Lauren, you ARE Dorothy!” not once, but twice. That’s because both Lauren K and Lauren C have both won the role of Dorothy in our P6 production of The Wizard of Oz. Lots go us auditioned and half the class have speaking roles. Don’t worry about the rest of us- we want to take on backstage roles (and there is always lots of singing!).

Antonia interviewed both Dorothys. If you like this video let us know by leaving a comment… We might make it a regular feature!

Meet Dorothy and Dorothy

Best comment last week goes to Lauren C, who will get her prize next week. There will be another prize for best comment this week (open to everyone – pupils, parents and school staff).

Enjoy your weekend.

Miss Anderson and P6a 🙂

P6a Moon Landing

This week we have had another very busy week. Not only did we start our Literature Circles, we also prepared for a moon landing by designing vehicles and space buildings. Here are a few of our finished products.

Harry and Flyn

It has a camera on the top so that it can take pictures of The Moon. It can move so that it can explore the moon and pick up rocks.

Chloe and Emily
Chloe and Emily

The building on The Moon is about 5′ tall, which is the same size as Emily! We are a good team.

Jay and Jack

Here are our models. One is a NASA rocket, it can fly up to the moon and 100 miles per hour. It can carry up to 1000kg. Our other model is a space probe, it has a bin and arms at the front and a satellite at the top.

We also learned about the phases of The Moon and how The Moon affect the oceans on Earth. We are trying to make a video of our work so hopefully we will be able to upload that soon!

Hope you have enjoyed reading about our learning this week. If you have why not leave us a commnet? Miss Anderson will give a prize to the person who leaves the BEST comment for us.
