Class Sun

We enjoyed baking some shortbread today. We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes and this was a great way for us to create some shapes with the dough. We enjoyed the feeling of the dough and Hamish and Katie thought it felt “slimey”. We read the instructions after we gathered all of the ingredients and materials. We enjoyed taking part in the preparation for our school snack. Mrs Harrison baked the shortbread in the oven for 25 minutes and some of us ate it for our snack in the afternoon.

Class Sun Angels

Class Sun have been busy getting into the Christmas spirit. We have continued to learn more about winter as well as some of us continuing to practise for next week’s Nativity.
Hamish and Kaite enjoyed singing the Nativity songs.
We have been extendning our knowledge of numbers as well as beginning to look at shape, pattern and size.
Shea enjoyed shape sorting and matching shapes to descriptions.
We enjoyed reading/listening to the Gruffalo’s Child and The Penguin who Lost his Mummy.
Kai and Zoe enjoyed recalling all the animals.
In Writing we made angels and then told stories about them. Most of them were busy angels who liked to sing!
Erin enjoyed writing a story about the angel who lost her magic.

Class Sun

This week some of us have been very practising songs for Nativity. Here they are so you can help us at home:
Song 1: Woolly Sheep

One woolly sheep won’t stand still,
Running around on the hill
Keeping all the shepherds busy,
Working till they feel quite dizzy
Work, work, work,
Work, work, work.

Two woolly sheep…

Three woolly sheep…

Four woolly sheep…

Five woolly sheep…

Work, work, work,
Work, work, work.
Phew!

Song 2: Sleepy Shepherd

Somebody is snoring, somebody’s asleep,
Somebody should be looking after his sheep,
But he’s a sleepy, sleepy head,
What a sleepy shepherd he is.

Somebody is snoring, somebody is snug,
Somebody is curled up like a bug in a rug,
And he’s a sleepy, sleepy head,
What a sleepy shepherd he is.

Instrumental

Somebody is snoring, somebody’s asleep,
Somebody should be looking after his sheep,
But he’s a sleepy, sleepy head,
What a sleepy shepherd he is.
What a sleepy shepherd he is.

Song 3: One Starry Night

A beautiful angel came to the hill,
Came to the hill, came to the hill,
A beautiful angel came to the hill,
One starry night.

He hovered above with silver wings,
Silver wings, silver wings,
He hovered above with silver wings,
One starry night.

And over his head a halo bright,
Halo bright, halo bright,
And over his head a halo bright,
One starry night.

He told us about a tiny child,
Tiny child, tiny child,
He told us about a tiny child,
One starry night.
Song 4: Would you like to come along?

Strolling down to Bethlehem, skipping through the night,
I’m going to find a stable with a tiny babe inside.
Would you like to come along with me?
Would you like to come along?
Would you like to come along with me?
Would you like to come along?

Strolling down to Bethlehem, skipping through the night,
I’m going to find a stable with a tiny babe inside.
Would you like to come along with me?
Would you like to come along?
Would you like to come along with me?
Would you like to come along?

Would you like to come along with me?
Would you like to come along?
Would you like to come along with me?
Would you like to come along?

Song 5: Under a star

Under a star, deep in the night was a stable,
Under a star, deep in the night was a stable,
Under a star, deep in the night, Jesus was born,
Jesus was born for you and me.

There in a place so far away, we found him,
There in a place so far away, we found him,
There in a place so far away, Jesus was born,
Jesus was born for you and me.

Under a star, deep in the night was a stable,
Under a star, deep in the night was a stable,
Under a star, deep in the night, Jesus was born,
Jesus was born for you and me.

Song 6: Bumpy Road

Three kings were riding down a bumpy road,
Following a star showing the way to go,
It was a bumpy road, bumpy road,
It was a bumpy, bumpy road,

Three kings were riding, wearing royal crowns,
Sitting on their camels, heading for the town,
It was a bumpy road, bumpy road,
It was a bumpy, bumpy road,

Instrumental

Three kings were riding down a bumpy road,
Following a star showing the way to go,
It was a bumpy road, bumpy road,
It was a bumpy, bumpy road,

Song 7: Wake up! Wake up!

Wake up! (clap, clap) Wake up! (clap, clap)
Come and see the King!
Wake up! (clap, clap) Wake up! (clap, clap)
Come and see the King!
Rub your eyes, jump out of bed,
Don’t you be a sleepy head!
Come and see the new born King.

Wake up! (clap, clap) Wake up! (clap, clap)
Come to Bethlehem!
Wake up! (clap, clap) Wake up! (clap, clap)
Come to Bethlehem!
Up you get, don’t make a fuss,
Wipe away your sleepy dust,
Come and see the new born King.

Wake up! (clap, clap) Wake up! (clap, clap)
Come and see the King!
Wake up! (clap, clap) Wake up! (clap, clap)
Come and see the King!
Rub your eyes, jump out of bed,
Don’t you be a sleepy head!
Come and see the new born King.
Come and see the new born King.

We have also been very busy with sensory experiences and measuring. We made pizza, which we tried for snack and salt dough. We enjoyed the pizza and are going to turn the salt dough shapes into Christmas tree decorations.

We continued our Winter learning context by researching animals in winter. We found out their names, what they eat, where they live and what they do in winter. We enjoyed learning the wow word HIBERNATION and what it means.

Kai found out that owl sleep all day.
Hamish found out that badgers live in sets.
Zoe made a reindeer and Katie made a wolf.
Shea found out that foxes eat rabbits.
Erin found out that hedgehogs hibernate.

Next week we are going to be learning about winter weather and clothes. We are really hoping for some snow!

Thus was fun!

Class Sun

This week in Class Sun we have started our new learning context of winter. we have been looking at dark and how it makes us feel. We have been reading The Owl that was Afraid of the dark. In the story fireworks helped Plop to be less frightened. We made firework pictures using chalk and used clay to design our own fireworks. We enjoyed sharing our experiences abou the fireworks we saw and heard during our lesson and at home with our families. Making marble night skys and pretending to be fireworks was fun too!

We are looking forward to learning more about the darkness and winter time!

Class Sun

Room on the Broom was one of Class Sun’s main learning contexts this week. We enjoyed reading and talking about ‘who’ was on the broom an d’who’ was not on the broom. We used the words of the story to help us learn about rhyme and adjectives.

Erin’s favourite part was ‘the hideous beast’ who rose out of the ditch.
Hamish’s favourite part was when the dragon chased the witch and wanted ‘witch and chips’ for tea.

In writing we made our own ‘hideous beasts’ to write about using clay.
Katie made a monster with a round head and body and two big eyes and two fluffy wings.

Sensory play helped us to learn about following instructions and to build our descriptive language.
Zoe anjoyed making sparkly paydough and using it to make the withces wand and hat.
Kai and Shea enjoyed making gloop to represent the bog that the animals all fell into. All of the boys and girls enjoyed talking about how the gloop changed from soft to hard.

Erin was very good at listening for the word o so she could crawl through the tunnel.
Shea focussed well and listened for his name during the ball games.

Another Literacy focus has been on ‘who’. We played the ‘Who’s in the Story Bag game’. This week there were lots of animals. Our favourite was the spiders. We made our own spiders and talked about ‘who’ they were.

Katie enjoyed making a spider called Spidy and then singing Incy Wincy with him.

Literacy
We have been learning more sounds and looking at where these sounds are found in words. We used paint, rainbow letters and messy play to practise our sounds. We have also read the Three Little Pigs and then used the story to extend our learning by making puppets, masks, looking at and making the different houses. During outdoor play we worked as a team to act out the story.

LAC
With Mrs Thomson we were making patterns with bubble wrap – these are very cool!
We explored bubbles and enjoyed talking about all the experiences we have had with bubbles. During Move-It time we have been learning to play in a group and how to play different wide games. ‘What’s the Time Mr Wolf?’ was our favourite.

Shea enjoyed trying to balance egg for the egg and spoon race.

Dylan tried hard to keep running fast in the sprint race.

Erin, Yoile, Logan, Aiden, Adam and Jayden found the sack race a challenge but enjoyed trying to keep inside the sack as they moved!

Steam Train Journey

On Tuesday some of the pupils from Classes M and O went to the Bo’ness Steam Railway to find out more about steam power and trains. The steam train was very different to the usual electric or diesel trains. It was very smelly and and moved slower.

In the museam we learned about how steam work, who invented them and where. We even had a go at driving a steam train and working the signal box. It’s a very tricky and tiring job.

we would highly recommend the Bo’ness Steam Railway for a family day out!

In maths with Mrs Collings we were doing data handling, looking at coins in a purse. We had to work out how many coins there were, how many silver ones, round ones and those worth more than 10p and less than 10p. It was pretty challenging!

For outdoor learning day on Thursday, we played playground games with the P1s. We had written instructions for them in language and then had to explain the games to them before we played. It was lots of fun and we hope our P1 friends enjoyed it too!

Pupil of the week – Dani for dealing with her diabetes in such a mature and responsible manner.
