Highlights of the week: Planting and Floating in the swimming pool!

In Balbardie Primary School we are very committed to our numeracy and literacy targets. However, we manage to combine hard work with fun. And we can do both with great success!

This week, on Wednesday we had an amazing time planting flowers in the playground. We had everything we needed: gloves, shovels, soil, baby flowers and a lot of energy! Apart from learning by experiencing the planting process, we are now more interested in keeping the playground nice and tidy. After all, we put a lot of work each of us on it! And on Thursday, at the end of a swimming lesson, we had fun in the swimming pool using pool floats!

More news coming next week!

Have a nice weekend! Buy!

Open morning was fun!

Thank you parents and grandparents for coming! It was great to see you and children were looking forward to your visit!

We had a great knowledge quiz on our ‘Egyptians’ topic, with the teams being children versus parents/grandparents. The competition was hard! Both teams gave a great performance and gained stickers!

Then, was time for the members of each family to create their own Egyptian jewellery. First we watched a short power-point presentation on the history of jewellery in Ancient Egypt. Then we made some amazing collar necklaces, while listening to ancient Egyptian music. Good job everybody!

FOCUS ON CREATIVITY!

This week was short, but still many activities were going on!

Cary liked the fun in the rainbow room and making cards for his special people, mum and dad!

Dylan liked the semi-circle shape and used his knowledge in different ways. ‘I made a pancake in a semi-circle shape with play-dough. ’ ‘I made a semi-circle moon on my special card for dad!’

Caitlin said ‘I made cakes with the play-dough and pretend to eat them’.

Callum enjoyed creating his own special card for his family!

Caitlin wanted to add that she was also proud this week ‘I got a certificate and I am really happy!’

Aiden said ‘Oh, I missed some of these things, because I had a bad cough! But I watched telly in my room’.

Classes 1, 2 and 3: Mid Week Get Together

Recently Classes 1, 2 and 3 have been having a Get Together every week in the hall.

We have been doing this on  a Wednesday morning. It is fantastic!

We begin by singing our welcome song.  It goes like this  “Welcome everybody, it’s good to see you here…. “.

Then we do a ‘Look back’ where we look at photographs on the Smartboard and think about what we have been doing over the past week.

Next we do a ‘Look forward’ where we find out about some things that will be happening soon.

The final part of the Get Together is when one person in each class gets a certificate. We all clap because these people have done so well 🙂

What we think about the Get Together.

Jason: I really like it when I get a certificate.

Geordie: I like the certificate part best as well.

Josh: I really like the certificate part and I also like the music.

Aidan: I feel really proud for the people who get the certificates.

Aidan added that he feels a bit nervous during the Welcome Song. The adults are very proud of the way his singing and actions have got more and more enthusiastic every week 🙂

In fact the adults have been extremely pleased  with how well everyone has been doing at Get Together time!

P.S. A special thank you to Jason for helping Mrs Stewart get the hall ready for Get Together every week. He does a great job!

Class 2 learn about the Egyptians

We learnt where Egypt is on the globe and also that it belongs to the continent called ‘Africa’.

We learnt about River Nile. We learnt that Nile is the longest river in the world and we tried to guess why Nile was important for Egyptians’s life.

We enjoyed making a pyramid and decorating it.

We found the process of making mummies so exciting! We tried and did it ourselves online!

We are also very happy that Callum will join our class from Monday! Welcome Callum!!!
