Primary 1b Blog – Week Beginning 29.10.18

This week we all agreed on the highlight…it was definitely Buddy Time with Primary 7!  We went outside with Mrs Mansfield, Mr Cunningham, Miss Perris and Miss Holwill and did experiments to make rockets explode – we even learned that they exploded because of a build up of a gas called Carbon Dioxide.

Then we went to the dinner hall to make our own flying rockets.  It was lots and lots of fun!!!

(A note from Mrs Mansfield – a couple of parents have asked me about homework this week.  Inside the homework pack there is a grid explaining which sounds we have covered.  Please ensure your child can identify and say these sounds.  The jotter is just in case your child wants to practise writing these – which would be really beneficial.  If you have any other questions, please ask)

Primary 1b Blog – Week Beginning 27.8.18

What a busy learning week we have had with Mrs Mansfield.  We are definitely getting into the swing of P1 and are enjoying all of our new learning challenges.

In our Circle Time this week we had a look at ‘Thinking like the Ladybird’ to introduce Growth Mindset.  We know that the ladybird never gave up even though she was so small…and she managed to save the day by believing in herself!  We said some horrible things to one apple (fixed mindset) and nice things to the other and then when we cut them open we saw what happened inside.  We have learned to always have a growth mindset.  Here are some of the things we are going to say when we have a challenge:

“Never give up” (Jack)

“I can always ask a friend for help” (Sarah)

“I can’t do this yet” (Emily)

“Mistakes are how we learn” (Reese)

“It’s okay to make mistakes” (Abbie)

“I will learn if I keep trying” (Kyle)

Some of our best learning moments this week have been:

Literacy

  • All the games to explore our sounds (Lylah)
  • Starting to draw detailed pictures to help our writing (Ivy)
  • Practising our sounds and starting to read (Danniella)

Maths

  • Counting with our friends number song (Rebecca)
  • Putting our numbers onto the number bus (Niamh)
  • Playing Bears in the Cave to help us count on (Finlay)

LAC

  • Making shakers to use our sense of hearing (Damon)
  • Listening for the words in our shaker story (Cody)

A huge well done to Isaac and Rosie who received our DHT awards this week for excellent behaviour and trying their best.

From Primary 2/1

(Key information from Mrs Mansfield

  • PE days are on a Tuesday/Wednesday (both indoor)
  • Golden time continues to be on a Friday
  • Homework will start after our Meet the Teacher event (September, date tbc)

Work, work, work.

Phew!

Somebody should be looking after his sheep,

But he’s a sleepy, sleepy head,

What a sleepy shepherd he is.

Somebody is curled up like a bug in a rug,

And he’s a sleepy, sleepy head,

What a sleepy shepherd he is.

He hovered above with silver wings,

One starry night.

One starry night.

Tiny child, tiny child,

He told us about a tiny child,

One starry night.

Strolling down to Bethlehem, skipping through the night,

I’m going to find a stable with a tiny babe inside.

Would you like to come along with me?

Would you like to come along?

Would you like to come along with me?

Would you like to come along?

Strolling down to Bethlehem, skipping through the night,

I’m going to find a stable with a tiny babe inside.

Would you like to come along with me?

Would you like to come along with me?

Would you like to come along?

Would you like to come along with me?

Would you like to come along?

P1b’s week

This week in P1b we have been busy practising our sounds and making words to add to our word wall.  We are very excited to be getting weekly reading books and learning to read on our own 🙂

In maths this week we have been learning about positional language and we are hoping to use the Bee bots next week to help us with our turns.

We are looking forward to going to the library next Thursday and we hope to see you at the Church Service next Friday 🙂

Have a lovely weekend from p1b  Continue reading P1b’s week

P1 & P7 Buddy Time

We had a great time in the playground with our P7 buddies this week. Our P7 buddies had prepared some Maths Trails for us and we had to count steps, measure objects or look for 2D shapes around our outdoor space. Some of it was quite challenging. We all enjoyed being outdoors together for our maths learning as part of Maths Week. A little rainy but jackets on and off we went to have fun!

P1B news

Welcome to Primary 1B!

The class has had an amazing start to P1 and we have been very busy this week :-).  We have started learning our phonics and we have been practising the sounds m and ck.  We made super funky monkeys and cool cars this week.  Next week we will make slithering snakes and fantastic Pikachu’s for our s and p sounds.

We had P.E this week with Mr Jeffries and we learned how to make friends during our teamwork games.  On Thursday we had outdoor P.E and we had fun throwing and catching balls, skipping through hoops and balancing with the quoits.

We will be practising timing ourselves on our activity stations next week and we are looking forward to learning about 2D shapes and making our shape monsters during maths time.

Matthias – We have been learning about keeping safe and people who help us. Our parents, the police, your sister, your brother, your teacher all keep us safe and help us.
Caitlin – We have been learning about safety and how your parents can keep you safe. We looked at safe and unsafe things that babies could eat. There were pictures of cleaning sprays which were unsafe. There was a milk bottle which was safe.
Noah – We worked with a partner and looked at pictures. We had to talk about if it was safe or unsafe. There was a boy eating grapes and I thought it was unsafe as he was eating all by himself and could have choked.

Hamish – We had a teddy bear picnic and we brung our teddies into school for the picnic.
Matthias – We were eating lots of sweets and crisps and we brung in our teddies. Some people didn’t bring in their teddies, so we shared them. We were celebrating summer!

Evie – These awards were for Sports Day and because we were racing so fast. We were trying to win!
Ava – I was 1st place in the sack race and I was 3rd in the egg and spoon race.
Matthias – Some people got 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Then we got lots of pictures and awards.

Scott – We were making buckets and we could colour it in after when we were finished.
Emma – We were doing our writing in the bucket and after we did our writing we got to cut them out.
Hamish -We were writing what we wanted to do in the summer holidays.
Matthias – We said what we wanted to do, who you wanted to see and where you wanted to go. Some people accidentally cut off their bucket handles, so Miss Waddell had to tape them together again.

Article 28: We have the right to an education

P1b

Reiss – We were learning how rain is made.

Caitlin – This was the water cycle.

Matthias – How rain happens is that the sun is so hot and tiny pieces of rain goes up to the sky and it turns into clouds. Sometimes it makes snow.

Emma – The rain was pouring down the clouds and we did an experiment and we took photos.

Ava – We had water, blue food colouring and shaving cream. When you add the food colouring you could see the cloud was getting heavy and it started to rain.

Hamish – When the tiny bits of water go up it’s called evaporation.

Lily – When the tiny bits of water go together and make clouds it’s called condensation.

Caitlin – When it falls down it is called precipitation.

Hamish – Everyone was looking at the experiment and we liked it.

On Wednesday it was Move on Day!

Caitlin – We were doing Rainbow Writing in Primary 2.

Evie – We made our names for our new trays.

Ava – We played a game where we had to roll the dice and say our names and something about us.

Emma – We also got to play with the play-doh and making stuff with it.

Evie – We were writing invitations to our teddies for our teddy bear picnic!

Ava – Our teddy bear picnic is on Monday in the tellytubby garden and if it is nice weather then we will have a real life picnic in school. If the weather is not nice then we will stay in the classroom.

Article 28: We have the right to an education

P1b

Noah – On Wednesday it was Sports Day and there were different races to win. The first race was just running, there was also an egg and spoon race. There was also a sack race and a rally race.

Emma – We had Sports Day and we did lots of races.

Matthias – There were lots of people who were trying their best. I was running for the House Point race. My daddy tried to race too, but I think he was second last.

Evie – When we were doing the sack race, lots of people were falling over and some people were not.

Maksim – I was fourth place in the sack race.

Marcus – In the sack race some people got hurt by falling.

Josh – At the egg and spoon race we had a potato instead and we had to walk slowly to the finish line.

Article 28: We have the right to an education

P1b

Emma – We have been reading books in the library and visiting the book fair. I have been reading lots of books.

Caitlin – At Shared Start we share our learning with parents.

Josh – We were at a book fair and we were looking at books and we can buy them at the school office.

Matthias – We were reading books at the office and then we had to choose what book we wanted for money and we had to tell our mum and dad if we wanted a book. Then the mums and dads might say yes or no.

Jacob – We also did a wordsearch with our parents at Shared Start and we were searching for Growth Mindset words.

Matthias – Growth Mindset is saying that you can do something, and not “I can’t do this” or “This is too hard”.

Article 28: We have right to an education

P1b

Josh – We made flower pictures whilst printing with bottles and little foam printers
Matthias – We had to make some nice flowers
Ava – We got paint and printed them onto paper with the bottles and made flowers

Evie – We were outside doing Maths and PE and we played a game. We had to clap 3 times and guess what the other person was going to do
Matthias – The game was used in Nigeria and they don’t have any toys so they don’t need them. Someone is the leader and whoever gets the same as the leader becomes to leader. It’s like rock, paper, scissors

Caitlin – We were learning symmetry and we were saying it something was symmetrical or not by saying “yes” or “no”

Lewis – We were learning about directions
Reiss – We worked with a partner and they closed their eyes whilst we helped give them directions. They moved how many spaces that we said.
