Almost there for P6a…

No, not the holidays – our marble jar. We only have 4 more marble to go until we get a reward (we hope!). We are going to spin the Wheel of Fortune (ok, really the reward wheel but just as exciting) to see what our reward will be. Fingers crossed for the four marbles.

We were very sad to hear of the passing of Nelson Mandela and have taken a bit of time out of our Jacobites topic to learn more about his life.

Nelson Mandela showed South Africans that white people and black people should be treated the same. (Paul)

He changed the world. (Taylor)

He was an inspiring man because he helped people to see the good in others. (Kendal)

He changed our world by making sure that everyone in South Africa had the same opportunities. (Jay)

P6a Get Animated!

For the last few weeks we have been learning about animation and how to create animations. Last week we created 3D animations and this week we created 2D animations. We worked in our Clan Teams for these tasks.

It was the P6 party this week and we all had a great time. We would like to say thank-you to all the adults (and P7 carers) who made it all possible – THANK-YOU!

We thought that the other P6 class did brilliantly in their assembly and we really enjoyed their singing and all the facts that they shared with us.

Introducing Dorothy

This week Miss Anderson was very excited to act like Andrew Lloyd-Webber and say

“Lauren, you ARE Dorothy!” not once, but twice. That’s because both Lauren K and Lauren C have both won the role of Dorothy in our P6 production of The Wizard of Oz. Lots go us auditioned and half the class have speaking roles. Don’t worry about the rest of us- we want to take on backstage roles (and there is always lots of singing!).

P6a Moon Landing

This week we have had another very busy week. Not only did we start our Literature Circles, we also prepared for a moon landing by designing vehicles and space buildings. Here are a few of our finished products.

It has a camera on the top so that it can take pictures of The Moon. It can move so that it can explore the moon and pick up rocks.

Chloe and Emily

The building on The Moon is about 5′ tall, which is the same size as Emily! We are a good team.

Here are our models. One is a NASA rocket, it can fly up to the moon and 100 miles per hour. It can carry up to 1000kg. Our other model is a space probe, it has a bin and arms at the front and a satellite at the top.

We also learned about the phases of The Moon and how The Moon affect the oceans on Earth. We are trying to make a video of our work so hopefully we will be able to upload that soon!

P6 school trip

On wednesday 30th october primary 6 went to dynamic earth. We had a very exiting time and we learned lots of new things. We went in a time machine that took us 50,000,000 years into the past. We also touched a large chunk of ice and we had a tasty lunch in the cafe. We also learned a bit more about our solar system. Then went into a 4D cinema that was really 4D . It took us through deserts and rainforests and through a rhinos horn too!

What abusy week we have had! Not only have we been on our school trip but we have had a dress up/down day and a visit from Mr Welsh. We think that Mr Welsh enjoyed learning with us because he looked happy 😀

This morning we worked in our Big Balbardie Blether groups, which was fun. It is always good to work in different groups and learn from each other.

P6a Visit Mars!

This week P6a have been very busy preparing for our assembly. We have been making props, learning our lines and learning the songs.

My Favourite Assembly Activity

Jack – I enjoyed making the props

William -I learned other people’s lines as well!

Lauren U -I liked singing the songs

Kendal – I enjoyed our parents vising for a cup of tea!

Olivia – I enjoyed performing

Miss Anderson is very proud, especially because we wrote the script ourselves!

Numeracy

As it is money focus week we learned more about money.

Jack – We played money games on the Smartboard

William – I learned more about money

Lauren U – I’m now better at counting up with money

Kendal -I liked playing the games on the Smartboard

Olivia – I liked making moneyboxes from 3D shape nets

Jay is a superstar because he is both our Pupil of the Week and also Mr Jefferies’ MVP (Most Valuable Player) for Primary 6.

Literacy

This week we have been redrafting our stories of the skies. We have been continuing to develop our skills when asking and answering analysing questions. We also had to correct a piece of work that had lots of spelling, punctuation and grammar mistakes.

Antonia – I enjoyed reading this week because I like my new novel.

Lauren C -I liked redrafting my story.

Harry – I enjoyed creating a powerpoint.

Paul – I liked typing a powerpoint.

Finlay – I already know how to work with powerpoint.

Jay – I feel like I have got faster and better at reading.

Maths and Numeracy

The red group have started learning about fractions

Antonia – We are no now learning about decimals

Lauren C – We now have Countdown on our maths wall. I liked trying to work it out as I liked being challenged.

Harry -I like that we have moved onto a different kind of fractions (decimals)

Paul -I am working hard in maths to ‘step up my game’

Finlay -The red group have started learning about fractions.

Jay – I feel like I’m starting to get the hang of multiplication and fractions. I have also been chosen to be one of the Countdown assistants.

LATC

We have been working on our songs and scripts for our assembly next week. We have also used powerpoint to research the planets in our solar system.

Antonia – I have enjoyed making the powerpoint for our assembly.

Lauren C – I am enjoying creating the choreography for our assembly songs.

Harry – I like being a timeline person as I get to find out events that happened before we went to space.

Paul – I like being an astronaut because we are all working together to finish our script.

Finlay – I like that I am an alien because everyone is working together to make the assembly good. The aliens are a big group.

Jay – Miss Anderson said I’ve got the timing right for our song Variation in Space.

Achievements

Antonia – My team won our football match.

Lauren C -I have learned more notes on my clarinet.

Harry -I have learned about tenths in maths.

Paul -I have made a big effort to think about what I say and I feel that I have achieved this.

Finlay -My team won our rugby tournament

Jay -I am pupil of the week and Mr Jeffries’ MVP!

P6a – Constellation Designers

This week in P6a we have been learning more about the stories of the skies and how to spot constellations. We are so good at this that Miss Anderson challenged us to design our own constellations and write our own stories to explain these constellations. We all wrote a different story.

Taylor’s story was about a giraffe that had a neck that grew so long that his head ended up in space.

Ellie’s story was about a shark that was different and wanted to visit space.

Adam’s story was about a cat that wanted to go to space. A dog chased the cat and the cat ended up in space.

Callum’s story was about a dog and a human that went to space and got super powers.

Kai’s story was about a dinosaur that had a fight.

In maths this week we have been continuing to learn about fractions and multiplication.

Taylor – I find my times table work quite easy as I know the quick way to do the 9 times table.

Ellie – I thought that the 2 times table was easy.

Adam – I thought that maths was easy and I liked it as I now understand fractions a bit more.

Callum – I think fractions are easy after a few weeks as we do more work on fractions.

We have also been working on our assembly songs and writing our scripts.

Taylor – We had fun writing scripts whilst sitting on the comfy couch.

Ellie – I found the songs fun, particularly Variations in Space.

Adam – I quite liked singing because the songs are catchy.

Callum – The songs are really good.

Achievements

The class have been getting on better in the playground and have been playing football sensibly. Callum thinks that the new rota is good and leads to less disagreements.

We also think that the playground is getting tidier – it is everyone’s job to keep it tidy!

Quite a few of us received our new instruments – how exciting!

Finally, we all enjoyed the coffee morning this morning!

P6a Get Creative!

This week in P6a we have been very creative! We have worked on a collage task with our P1b buddies. We have also created some beautiful pieces of art work based on stars and constellations. Click here for a sneak peek of our work.
It is our assembly in a few weeks and we have decided which songs we are going to include and everyone has part of the script to write. Next week we will start to write the scripts and learn the songs. Lots of us are excited about our assembly.

In Maths the Blue group and the Green group have been learning more about fractions. Lauren K liked completing 2 pages of maths and is happy that she can now find tenths and fifths of numbers. Adam liked maths this week because he didn’t understand fractions until Thursday but now feels confident when finding tenths. Chloe likes maths because she quite likes a challenge. The Red group were revisiting the 2, 5 and 10 times tables and then worked on the 4 and 8 times tables. Taylor found her work fun because we learned in different ways. William found his maths quite east.

The Underdogs won in a Dodgeball Competition in P.E. with Mr Jeffries. Well done to The Underdogs.

Isla is our Class Dojo Champion with 21 positive points (and no negatives!). Well Done Isla!

P6a Reach for the Stars

This week in Primary 6a we have been learning about stars. Did you know that our sun is really a star? We are going to learn more about the stars and planets that make up our universe.

On Monday we had a visit from Childline, which was really interesting and we learned a lot about how Childline can help. We also memorised the phone number for Childline 0800 1111

We shared our Home Learning on Tuesday and we also learned more about remembering types of questions. This type of questions tests what you can remember from your home reading. We can remember a lot and are going to work on understanding questions next week.

We have had many achievements this week, both in and out of school

Callum was signed by Murieston Whites FC and will now play alongside Nathan.

Flyn drew in his muay thai fight (against a more experienced opponent)

Adam did NINE backflips on his trampoline

Chloe achieved grade 2 in tap, ballet and jazz

Finlay was asked to join Linlithgow Rugby Club

Harry and Jay both passed the pre-grading black belt

Isla is our Class Dojo champion with 11 points. The class total for positive points is 179.

P6a are happy to be at school (well, most of us)

In assembly this morning we learned that there are millions of children in the world who do not get to go to school. This makes us think that we are very grateful that we have the right to an education.

We enjoyed eating lunch with our buddies and we still check up on our buddies to make sure that they are ok in the playground.

In Maths the Blue group and the Green group started to learn about FRACTIONS! Lauren U thinks that fractions are easy but quite a lot of us think that fractions are tricky. Miss Anderson is sure that by the end of next week more of us will think like Lauren. Kai managed to accurately complete 2 pages of maths in under 10 minutes. Jack was our big improver in BIG maths with 9 more correct. Jack and Antonia got our high scores with 14.

Mr Welsh joined us for our Spelling lesson on Tuesday, which was good fun. We enjoy learning our spelling words using a variety of activities. Here are a few photos of our work. ***TO FOLLOW*

We also started to learn about Space and Miss Anderson reminded us that we can find lots of information and videos using Twig on Glow. We do need to log in using our Glow Log on. Here is the link http://www.twigonglow.com/

Achieving our Goals in P6a

This week we have been very busy setting our goals. We have all thought about what we want to achieve over the next few weeks and are looking forward to working towards achieving them. Here is a photo with the details.

We decided on our iPad rules and have been busily creating posters to help us remember to always follow these rules. We all agree that we have to follow the rules to make sure that everyone in the class can use the iPads to support their learning.

Flynn had a super success in BIG Maths. He managed to improve his score by 9 marks. Other fantastic improvements were shown by Lauren K (5), Lauren C (4), Callum (3) and Isla (1). Hopefully this will inspire us all to practise our table facts at home.

Ellie was the first class member to get onto Step 1- Well Done Ellie! Everyone is so proud of you. By the end of the day there were more class members who had achieved this. Keep up the hard work and good behaviour.

Kendal was proud of writing 70 words during handwriting. She also used correct letter joins!

Emily was our Pupil of the Week for her hard work and diligence 😀

Class Dojo points winner was Isla with 9 points. This week we had 127 good things happen in our classroom. Fingers crossed for even more next week!

Next week we are all looking forward to having lunch with our P1 buddies and are hoping to start our weekly Buddy Time sessions.

Primary 6a have a ‘funtastic’ first week back!

This week in Primary 6a we have had a fantastically fun first week! We have reacquainted ourselves with the class iPads but we were a bit worried that they had shrunk over the holidays. Fortunately for us Mr Welsh had bought new iPad minis for our class – Flyn thinks that this is awesome!

On Tuesday we all had good fun with our Primary 1 buddies. Our class has paired up with Miss Bollen’s Primary 1. Jack thinks it is great fun to play with his buddy and Finlay thinks his buddy is funny. We are all looking forward to working with Primary 1b to help them learn.

We have been learning more about the UNCRC and our rights. We are in the process of creating our Class Charter and here are a few of our designs.

Jack and Nathan have the right to clean water

Miss Anderson is using Class Dojo to monitor our behaviour and make sure that all the good things we do are recorded. Pupil login details will be shared in Home Learning jotters when they are handed out. So far we have had 130 positive things happen in our classroom! That is over 40 a day.

P5a have fun with fitness!

This week we have (once again) been very, very busy. We have taken part in many healthy activities, including Sports Day. Yesterday we were very lucky to have a fun day at Xcite. Rather than write about it we have made a video of the activities we took part in. We used a special technique to make the video called Time Lapse. Time Lapse is when a camera is set to take photos automatically (every second in our case). The photos are then put together to make a film. We hope you enjoy it.

We also met our new teacher today!

P5a go Sports Mad!

This week P5a have gone sports mad! In addition to our normal P.E. lessons we took part in the Sky Community Challenge…and won! Everyone got a medal for taking part and we all enjoyed participating in lots of different sporting activities.

Melissa’s highlight was meeting Chris Cook, a swimmer who won GOLD in the Commonwealth Games.

Laura’s highlight was playing hockey.

Jason’s highlight was playing rugby and he is looking forward to the rugby festival (Monday 10th of June).

Kieran S enjoyed playing basketball.

Here is a picture of a few of our boys taking part in the dancing workshop.

In maths this week every group got 100% correct answers when playing Education City games. We are all very proud of our scores and think that maths is FUN!

We learned more about the trial of William Wallace. We made comic strips of his trial and discovered a new app for the iPad. Here is an example of a comic strip made with this new app.

We are all hoping for sunshine this weekend 8)
