Well done to the Euroquiz Team. They were excellent ambassadors of Holmston Primary at the recent local heat of the nationwide quiz. They demonstrated all the hard work and effort that they had put in to learning all about Europe.
P7 visit to Belmont
P7 recently attended workshops led by the students at Belmont High School. They found out about physics, chemistry and biology. The most popular activities were using the Bunsen burners to make firework-like effects by burning different materials and using microscopes to examine different items including a fly’s leg!
P6 and P7 Author Visit
Last week P6 and P7 were invited to Ayr Library to meet Janis Mackay the author of “The Accidental Time Traveller”. She read from her books and gave us ‘top-tips’ for writing including using all of our senses.

Glee Club Christmas Performances
Our Glee Club have been very busy out and about in the community. As well as performing at the school fayre, they have also been to Tesco, Hansel Village and various nursing homes. They will be going to perform at Ayr Hospital later on in the week. Thank-you to Mrs Hunter and Ms Slider for organising this.
P1-3 Nativity
Christmas has finally arrived with the staging of our Nativity “Prickly Hay”. The children really enjoyed learning their lines, songs and fantastic dance moves! Well done to all involved and thank you to the staff for organising this. Thanks also go our our parent helpers, Mrs Lambie and Mrs Henry for helping with the art work.
P7 STEM Event at Belmont
The Primary 7s from across the Cluster enjoyed a day of Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths at Belmont High School. This gave them an opoprutnity to make new friends as well as develop their understanding of a variety of STEM skills. The balloon kebabs and marble run proved to be very popular activities.
The Christmas Fayre
Thank you to the Parent Voice for organising yet another hugely successful event and to the parents, pupils and staff who supported the event. The total raised was £1200 which will be put back into enriching the pupils’ experiences at Holmston.
Scottish Showcase
To celebrate St Andrew’s Day we invited our families and friends to share our learning about Scottish Culture at the Scottish Showcase. This included social dancing, poetry, songs and lots of Scots Language. I particularly enjoyed finding out about the pirates especially ‘Glaikit Greeting Gary’. We hope this event will feature in the Ayrshire Post soon.
