The Big Pedal 2017

Get set… we’re taking part in The Big Pedal 2017, the UK’s largest inter-school cycling and scooting challenge that inspires pupils, staff and parents to choose two wheels for their journey to school. The challenge runs from 27th to 31st March. It’s free to enter and we would love everyone to be involved.

On each day of the challenge schools compete to see who can record the greatest number of pupils, staff and parents cycling or scooting to school. Our five days will determine our final position in the challenge. We’ll be competing against other schools right across the UK, and if we clock up the most bike and scooter journeys we’ll win!

All you need to do is encourage your child(ren) to cycle or scoot to school every day during the event, and join them on their way – parent and sibling journeys count too!

Please remember to bring a lock for you bike or scooter.

JRSO Safe Parking Campaign

During February, our ‘Getting It Right For Every Child‘ (GIRFEC) focus is SAFE. Our JRSOs have been very busy in the mornings and at the end of the school day taking photos of the drivers that have not followed our repeated requests to park safely and choose to ignore the very large yellow banner attached to the school railings.  If you are driving your child to school, please DO NOT park like the cars in the photo gallery for the safety of all the children. We have informed our campus cop of the campaign and he is also spot-checking the area for us.

Parking will be even more difficult over the coming weeks due to the Virgin Media cable laying, so we recommend leaving five minutes earlier to find a suitable parking space.

Examples of how you should not park:

Road Safety Week

This week our JRSOs will be leading an assembly on Road Safety as part of Road safety week. They are asking adults to drive less and, if they do drive, to do everything they can to protect themselves and the people around them.

brakeThey will remind the pupils to:

  • sit in car seats and/or wear seat belts on every journey
  • keep quiet in the car so the driver can concentrate
  • be aware when walking on the pavements and crossing the road
  • walk, cycle or scooter to school to become strong and healthy and help the planet
  •  ask adults to drive slowly around the school and homes
