Maths Challenge – Elf Suits!
Mrs Claus made four of the workshop elves new suits for Christmas.
Each suit had matching trousers, waistcoat, jacket and hat.
One suit was all red, one was all green, one was all yellow and one was all blue. The elves were delighted with their presents, but decided it would be fun to wear a different outfit every day for as many days as possible. So they agreed to swap around parts of their suits until they ran out of new combinations.
How many days did their fun last?
World Book Day Competition
Please take a look at the marvellous work the pupils from across the school and Mrs Messner have undertaken as part of our World Book Day Competition entry. We are hoping this work will encourage more pupils – and adults – to read for pleasure. We are also looking forward to having author visits to the school next term too.

After School Netball Club
Please note that Monday 28th November 2016 was the last after school netball session for this term. Mrs Tindall will meet with the players at their match on Wednesday 7th December 2016 at Whitletts Activity Centre. Please return any outstanding permission slips to the school before this event.
After School sessions will recommence on Monday 16th January 2017.

Scottish Showcase
All the pupils thoroughly enjoyed performing at our Scottish Showcase to two packed audiences today. Each class shared their learning about Scottish language, songs and culture – from the dinosaur with the ‘jaggy’ back to the ‘yella’ owl! P5 and P6 also showcased dances they had learned for the ‘Day of Dance’ they recently attended in Troon.

Maths Challenge of the Week (1) – Scottish Culture Week
Paw Broon has won the Postcode lottery! Hooray!
He spent two thirds of his winnings on a baronial Highland castle.
He spent two thirds of what he had left on a luxury yacht so he could take the family on a tour of the Scottish Islands and sea lochs.
Then he spent two thirds of what he had left on funding a scientific expedition to locate the Loch Ness Monster.
He spent his final £20,000 on treating Maw Broon to a week at Skibo Castle.

Christmas Fair
Road Safety Week
This week our JRSOs will be leading an assembly on Road Safety as part of Road safety week. They are asking adults to drive less and, if they do drive, to do everything they can to protect themselves and the people around them.
They will remind the pupils to:
- sit in car seats and/or wear seat belts on every journey
- keep quiet in the car so the driver can concentrate
- be aware when walking on the pavements and crossing the road
- walk, cycle or scooter to school to become strong and healthy and help the planet
- ask adults to drive slowly around the school and homes
Scottish Showcase
Our Scottish Showcase performances are on Friday 25th November. Tickets are selling out fast. Pupils may wear something tartan to school on Friday.
Parent Voice Dress Down Day
Thursday 24th November is a Dress Down Day for donations for the class Christmas hampers. The hampers will be raffled at the Christmas Fayre on Saturday 3rd December 10.00am – 1.30pm. Donations should be something festive – chocolates, festive drinks, decorations, shortbread, crackers,small christmas gifts, advent calendars, mince pies – no perishable goods please.
Super Gritter Visit
Mr Stewart came into school with his super gritter to give the pupils the opportunity to discover how Ayrshire’s roads are kept free of snow and ice during winter weather. The pupils enjoyed the workshop and learning about the importance of delivering winter services within our local communities and they especially loved the opportunity to get up close with the gritters to see how they operate. Knex Champions
Well done to the Holmston Knex Team – they came first in our Cluster heat with their amazing design for vehicles that could transport a bottle of water. Next time it’s off to Kilmarnock for the Ayrshire finals.
World Book Day
We will be celebrating World Book Day on Thursday 3rd March. Pupils may dress up as their favourite book character or in non-uniform. If you would like to come and read your favourite children’s book to your child’s class please contact the school office. Pupils should also bring in their favourite book too.
Euroquiz
Well done to the Euroquiz Team. They were excellent ambassadors of Holmston Primary at the recent local heat of the nationwide quiz. They demonstrated all the hard work and effort that they had put in to learning all about Europe.
