On Thursday 21st April, Abernyte Primary went to Day of Song. We had been learning the songs for it. When we got there we got our seats and they started the songs. In the morning we learnt the songs as a group and we also did a fun warm-up. We sang all the songs and we all enjoyed it. After we had a break we sang more songs. Then one of the people on the stage said about they need two people from each school after lunch.
We went to the North Inch to have our lunch. When we were having our lunch we saw Elise. It was really weird seeing her because I had not seen her in ages. Once we had finished our lunch we went back to the concert. We sat down then Molly and I went to the Norie Miller suite. We got told we had to show our sign when our amount of money was said. Once it was finished we went back to our seats and we sang all the songs once more.

Layla (P5) reports:
“Hundreds of primary school children spent the day at Perth concert hall for Day of Song. The theme this year was Songs for Time Travellers. Each school had chosen a different decade and both children and teachers were dressed in the fashion of those times. They filled the auditorium and two children from each school were chosen to go on stage to stand on stage together. Everyone sang the various songs from the past which they have been busy learning over the past few weeks which included among many Let it be by the Beatles. An adult orchestra accompanied them and a great time was had by all.”

Rounding off a series of inputs from the Scottish Opera, P5-7 of Abernyte Primary joined up with pupils from St. Madoes Primary to put on a production of “Slim McBride and the Lost Tribe” for family and friends.
Telling the story of adventurer Slim McBride, the action-packed musical featured the wonderful and exotic people, plants, birds and animals of the South American rainforests and explored the threats that the modern world can pose. Children were encouraged to ask crucial questions about the future of these magnificent forests, the eco-system that depends on them, and why it is so important that they be protected as part of a cross-curricular topic that covered Personal and Social Development, Citizenship, Geography and the Expressive Arts.
Playing the part of the rainforest animals, Abernyte pupils had a blast, made new friends and learned a lot.
On the 12th of June 2012 I went to sing a song for the Olympic torch at the South Inch in Perth.
When I got to Perth I was really early so I went for a walk in town. When we were walking there was a man selling British flags for people to wave when the Olympic torch came though. When it was time for me to go to get ready for singing I went into a church (it’s on King Street in Perth at the South Inch) to warm up with lots of little songs and had a quick run though the song.
Finally it was time for us to sing our song we had been practising. When we were singing it was a bit annoying because all the big Coca Cola and Samsung vans were coming though with lots of music so nobody could hear us. At last a girl came with the Olympic torch and it was really tall. On it was one of the Olympic symbols. It was also bright gold. At the end we had to sing again but there weren’t a lot of people watching us.
