lundi le trente mars

Welcome back to another week and “Let’s get ready to rumble!”

First of all, we are all going to have the same spelling words today, they are the key words in a list on the page. These words are important because of the plurals ( more than one). Write out the words in joined handwriting 3 times.

I can identify different letter patterns.

Follow the instructions for sections A, B and C and Extra.

For the Extension section, follow the rules and examples shown to you (don’t just guess ) to make the words plural and as I have been saying recently, there are no apostrophes in sight 😂!

I can write the plurals of words ending in s and ss correctly.

Can you think of any other words with these endings? You could have a competition with your friends online to see who can find the most interesting words!

You can still practise your own word walls – column 2 and there are Sumdog challenges for Spelling, Reading and Maths this week.

Well done to everyone who has been practising their skills on Sumdog, I am seeing some progress in your levels, so please keep up your hard work!

Number – I can practise different mental maths skills

Let’s get back to revising place value. In this activity you will partition the numbers to show the correct amount of digits in each column. I have completed the first one for you as a reminder.

I can partition 4 digit numbers

I hope that you are feeling mathsfit, because we have been challenged by Primary 4 and Mrs Maher to a Sumdog maths competition! Of course we will accept the challenge because we have some amazing mathematicians and I reckon that we can beat them easily!

The competition started  from 9am  today and lasts until 3pm on Friday, and will focus on your place value knowledge. Come on everybody  – we need as many as possible to join in with this competition. Call friends in through social media if you need to!!!

As a finishing activity try

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/place-value/place-value-charts

where you make up different numbers.

Happy Learning everyone!

vendredi le vingt-sept mars

Bonjour mes enfants!

Have you been keeping up with your exercise? Remember that Joe Wicks is exercising with everyone on his YouTube channel.Joe Wicks

I also saw a funny BBC Bitesize animation about the development of castles in Scotland yesterday. You can pick up any missed episodes on https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episodes/p006v400/bitesize.

The Primary episodes seem to be the odd numbers.

I hope that you and your family are keeping well. We are at the end of our first week of learning via the blog so please let me know how things are going and if you have any requests for next week.

Today we will start with our usual spelling test 😂Please ask someone to read out the words in a sentence so that you can spell the focus words. Remember that it has been the first column of your own word walls this week.

Next we have a writing task, based on descriptive settings.

I can write a descriptive setting using interesting adjectives.

Please choose one of these settings and write some descriptive paragraphs about it. Remember to use all of your senses and powerful vocabulary to create a sense of atmosphere. Also use interesting sentence openers, punctuation and different types of sentences e.g What’s that glistening in the sand?  or “Help!!!” screamed a frightened voice from the top of the Ferris wheel.

If you want to type up and illustrate your descriptions, please do so.

Moving onto maths- we are going to revise some basic time facts.

I can read half past times and write them in different ways.

When the minute hand ( the longer hand) is pointing to the 6 then it is half past the hour – notice the link to fractions! You will also see that the hour hand( the shorter hand) is midway between the 2 hours. This is very important when we show times on a clock. Please write the times in words and in digital time as I have shown you.

How about finishing off with some interactive clock games?

There are also the cool Glasgow Science Centre experiments to look into. https://www.youtube.com/user/scienceshowbob/videos

Have a great weekend, everyone!Image result for Emoji Missing you

Hi!

Hi everyone,

Just checking in to see how you are?

There have been no comments on the blog for a couple of days, so I want to make sure that you can access the resources okay.

I know that some of you have been working on Sumdog and Activelearn, so please keep up all of this great practice!

A big shout out to you all and your families.Image result for thinking of you emoji

jeudi le vingt-six mars

Bonjour ! Hope that you are all well and keeping up your PE and fitness with Joe Wicks every morning!

There are some additional links for learning on the main school Blog which you might be interested in looking at as they cover different subjects.

For your language warm up, look at the first column of you spelling word wall and find out how many rhyming words you can think of eg daisy and lazy. They are homophones- same sound, but different spelling pattern, whereas goal and foal rhyme and have the same spelling pattern and phoneme.

Your main literacy today is grammar and punctuation and we will focus on Parts of Speech. You have practised using all of these parts of speech, so this will be a useful revision task for you.

I can demonstrate that I understand how to use Parts of Speech

For the next section use either a real or online dictionary to help you. If you’re not sure 🤔 just type in the question e g what is the noun from beautiful? There are so many skills being developed here!

I can use resources to make links between different parts of Speech.

In the last section, look at the sentences to decide which punctuation marks are needed and where they will go. There are question and exclamation marks to be thought about too! The title for this section – I can punctuate sentences correctly.

Moving onto number, the focus today is multiplication.

As a starter, go onto this site to practise your times tables and exercise at the same time!

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/supermovers

We have been learning the formal method of multiplication, so here is a revision exercise. Remember that the unit multiplies with all of the numbers across the top line and carried numbers are included in the column totals. I have given you a quick reminder below of the different steps.

So now it’s your turn.  I can multiply 3 digits by 1 digits

I have already done the first one for you in the example!

To finish off today, see if you can play Time Traveller with others in the house/make some snap cards of multiplication questions on one card and answers on another.

Have you been watching any of the BBC bite size clips which have been on TV? Keep your brain and body active and stay safe😊.

mercredi le vingt-cinq mars

Happy Wednesday, everyone!

Please use your spelling words to  warm up using one of the activities in your own homework poly pocket  e.g. rainbow spelling, backwards words, missing out the vowels, etc.

Today our literacy lesson will focus on comprehension skills. We have been writing in quanswers so that all of our answers make sense and we know what is being referred to. Please write full, clear answers in your jotter. Please read the following story.

Now, write I can answer different types of comprehension questions  in your jotter, and answer the following questions to demonstrate your understanding of the text.

Hope that you are enjoying your mental maths quizzes! Here is the third one and as you can see I have given you some handy hints! Write your title, I can use different mental maths skills and write the answers neatly in your jotter/ you could always work with someone and tell them the answers and they could write your score in the jotter.

Now that your number brain is ready, let’s have a revision of subtraction with no exchange.

I can subtract 4 digits from 4 digits with no exchange.

Remember to check that the answer is less than the number on the top line! Traffic light all your tasks and talk to someone about how you are enjoying your home learning. You can “ hot seat” to explain your learning to someone else.

Here is a link to MathsFrame addition and subtraction games site.

https://mathsframe.co.uk/en/resources/category/9/addition-and-subtraction

Make sure that you are staying safe by washing your hands, coughing and sneezing into a tissue or elbow, eating healthily and exercising if you can.

Please let me know how you are getting on by leaving any comments if you wish to.   Thinking about you all. 😊

mardi le vingt-quatre mars

Bonjour la classe!

Today we will be practising our handwriting skills, so please make sure that you have a sharp pencil. Your title will be:

I can form and size letters correctly and practise the four joins

When you make the joins, check whether the joins are base or horizontal.

Please practise your spelling from your own word wall and look at Sumdog spelling for a spelling challenge.

Number- focus on addition

Here is your mental maths practice. Write the answers neatly in your jotter. I have given you a couple of clues to help you recall some of these concepts.

Moving onto you addition task, which should be written out correctly into your jotter – all of the place values under each other and ruled answer lines! Be careful with basic additions!!

I can add 4 digits without exchange. Choose 10 sums from the selection below.

When you have finished, please traffic light your work  and explain to an adult the steps to complete these addition sums. Make sure that you talk about the column values and explain clearly. An adult could traffic light your explanation! 🚦

Please continue to practise your skills on Sumdog and Activelearn.

Here is a  link to take you to some addition games.

Keep well, keep safe, and take time to develop new interests.🌍

lundi le vingt-trois mars

Good morning everyone!

I have set us all up on the Oxford Owl website. You can log in by using this username and password by clicking on the “My class login” button on the Oxford Owl site.

username: primary 4/5

password: Password

There is access to ebooks and other activities to help you maintain and make progress in your reading skills.

Please complete the literacy and numeracy lessons in your jotter.

Here is your literacy lesson for today. The focus is spelling, the knowledge of spelling patterns and alphabetical order. All of the tasks are revision of learning already taught.

Write the correct spellings for the pictures in your jotter.

Make sure that you look at the examples carefully before starting each activity and think carefully about what you already know.

A  Add oil or oy to complete the words.

B Write the words that have been joined to make the contractions.

C Add ed or d to these words.

D Make four compound words using the words in the box.

Extension- notes

B You may need to make double letters for some of the words- check whether the word looks correct when you write it.

D  For alphabetical order you need to go to the second letter.

Here is today’s numeracy lesson. Let’s start off with some mental maths.

For your main task, we will revise place value by ordering the following sets of numbers. Remember to check the number of digits before you start, then look carefully at the value of each number in the same place column eg  75634   and  76534    6000 is bigger than 5000 so 76534 is bigger than 75634.

Finish off with an interactive game from http://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/7-11years/place-value

Have a lovely day and remember that Joe Wicks is doing fitness on his YouTube from 9am!

vendredi le treize mars

Today we completed 3 activities for Sports Relief as well as a special assembly and badminton coaching, so we have been very active. In the activity shown, we were designing a character based on a piece of sporting equipment. We thought about Rights 15, 24, 29 and 31 which link to us being able to relax and play, join groups and become the best we can be no matter what our abilities. We had fun creating some alliterative names for our characters. For photos of the other activities, please see the blogs for Primary 4 and Primary 5.

Have a great weekend!

mercredi l’onze mars

Here we are practising the times tables dance. The unit dances with the unit, then it dances with the ten, then with the hundred. Visualise the dance and it will help you with the stages of formal multiplication.

This afternoon we were using special metallic paint to decorate the clay pendants that we made last week. Some of the designs were a bit fiddly, so we had to change the brush sizes .
