jeudi le trente novembre

In PE we had fun using the small equipment. The quoits were tricky to control but we had more success when we were using the bean bags in team games!

Thinking about our Nativity costumes, if possible we would like each child to bring in the following by the end of next week:

a plain white short-sleeved T shirt

a black long -sleeved top to wear under the white T shirt

black trousers

If your child has a speaking part, their costume will be provided.

Many thanks for your help with this and if there are any problems please let us know ASAP.

We now have our lovely, new class carpet! There has been some disruption while the carpet was being laid and we had to vacate the classroom but the majority of the children have been very helpful and sensible during the transitions.

This is a good time to remind everyone that a pair of indoor shoes left in class can be very useful!  Not only do we need them for P.E. but if the children have wet shoes, they can leave their outdoor shoes to dry and change so that they feel more comfortable which then helps them to concentrate on their learning.

Homework 28/11/17 – 4/11/17

Language

Spelling words:

This week Groups 1, 2 and 3 look over the words in the first column

Group 4 – look at the second word in each row – there will be 8 words.

For Group 5, look at the third word in each row – there will be 7 words

Use whatever method helps you to remember how to spell the words e.g. how many letters does the word have? what shape does it make?, words in words, how many phonemes? etc.

Write them out 3 times and write 6 interesting sentences WITH PERFECT PUNCTUATION!!

 Reading

You have been given a school book to read at home.  Please look after it and remember to have it in your bag each day.  Read out loud from your book to an adult to practise your word attack strategies, fluency and expression. Record any interesting VCOP that you come across in your reading

J.K Rowling group – new home reader

Roald Dhal group – read whole book

David Walliams group – read whole book

 Number

We have been investigating different mental maths strategies this week.

Your homework sheet provides a quick revision of different aspects of number and maths that

you have already covered (in P4 and in previous classes) and gives you practice in reading and

thinking about the word problems.

This site has some different games for you to try out:

Interdisciplinary Learning  – due in Friday 1st December

We were researching and noting information about the Viking Gods – Odin, Thor, Frey, Freya and Loki.

You could use the information we found out to help you with your poster OR you could choose a different Viking God. We looked at a “Wanted” poster, so everyone should be clear on what to do.

This piece of work could be done on the computer, so that you can include cool fonts and pictures.

The poster should contain:

·         The God’s name

·         A description of what they look like.

·         Information about their powers

·         Why do you want to find that particular Viking God?

vendredi le vingt-quatre novembre

Today, we demonstrated that we can use other mental maths strategies- this time, number bonds to 10 and near doubles.

Before we started our story writing, we were identifying good examples of VCOP. In this example, some of the connectives have been identified.

Finally, here are some photos of the preparations for the Christmas Fayre- it looks to be the best yet! Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow or if not, then next week. Have a great weekend, everyone!

jeudi le vingt-trois novembre

When we register, we have started to think about which mental maths skills and strategies we are using to add numbers together. It is really interesting to hear which ways pupils are applying their skills.

In HWB, Primary 4 were introduced to the idea of what it would be like to suddenly have to leave your home. Some children were aware of current global situations where people have left conflict zones and unsafe areas.  We compared the things you would pack for a beach holiday and those you would pack if you had to leave your home without knowing where you were going and how long for.

Finally, here is a great picture of P4 with their contributions to the Christmas Fayre!

mercredi le vingt-deux novembre

Wow! We have some very lucky pets- SANTA PAWS is coming to town!!

Today we were busy making up treat bags for the dogs. There are so many skills involved in putting together these lovely treat bags. Look at the lovely puppy’s face- how could anyone ignore such fun-filled advertising?

We conducted a survey to see how many children in the school have dogs and cats and we used this information to create graphs in ICT.

It was good fun exploring the different features of Word.

Number

Using our work on place value as a basis for understanding, we  are moving onto strategies to enable us to add and subtract accurately in different ways.

Page number totals Ask children to find a book at home, and to find all the numbers on the first 10 pages (some might be written in words). They find the ‘total’ of each page number and record the total. They also write an explanation of how they worked this out.

His site has a variety of games to suit different levels of ability and confidence.

The pyramid game is especially useful for larger numbers and remembering exchange between columns.

A few more children have been onto Activelearn, but we need to see more activity on the site. This is a fun way for you to engage in your learning so please use the site to reinforce what you have been learning in class.

Interdisciplinary Learning  – due in Friday 1st December

Continuing our exploration into the world of the Vikings, create a wanted poster for your favourite Viking God.

The poster should contain:

Children in Need 2017

Here are some photos showing the fun we had selecting healthy food to put into Pudsey’s Picnic Hamper. This links to Article 27 the Right to  nutritious  food.

We were very good at deciding the foods which would be healthiest   and most  delicious  for the picnic.

Enjoy the longer weekend and we will see you in school on Tuesday – remember that Monday is an In Service day.

jeudi le seize novembre

Asking someone in the “Hot Seat” how they had improved their language skills.

Demonstrating how to control a ball whilst dribbling through the cones. We know that when we are working as part of a team to achieve a goal, we work harder to concentrate and make our team-mates and ourselves proud.

Tomorrow, we will be “doing our bit for Pudsey”! Remember to have suitable clothes for going outside and get ready to enjoy the spotacular event. Please bring a donation of £1 to add to the school’s contribution for Children in Need. Thank you.
