Reading

You have been given a school book to read at home.  Please look after it and remember to have it in your bag each day.   Read out loud from your book to an adult to practise your word attack strategies, fluency and expression.

J.K Rowling group – read chapter 4    Please read the chapter before reading on Wednesday.

Roald Dhal group – read whole book

David Walliams group – read whole book

Number

We have been re-looking at number ordering this week. Everyone has their own number ordering to complete.  Remember to look at place values and check whether the order makes sense!

There are lots of games to help you practise at this site.

I am able to see who has been accessing Activelearn and very few pupils have been onto the site. This is a fun way for you to engage in your learning so please use the site to reinforce what you have been learning in class.

Interdisciplinary Learning – this homework should be handed in by 20th November

Research a famous male or female Viking.

Find out:

·         The person’s name

·         Where they were from

·         What they have done to make them famous

·         Any other interesting facts

·         Include a drawn or printed picture of the person.

Make sure that you use your own words and understand what you have written. DO NOT just copy chunks of information from a book or the internet.

I will be expecting your best presentation and the use of punctuation and correct spelling!

vendredi le dix novembre

Punctuation was our focus in Big Writing today.

First of all we had to read a passage with no punctuation to work out the meaning, then we could create sentences. We thought of ways that we could make sentences even better by adding commas and connectives. Finally, if we included exclamation marks we could bring feeling and expression to the text.

To practise our punctuation we used the context of the Battle of Largs which we have been learning about. We learnt about the punctuation marks used in writing newspaper reports and we checked our punctuation as we were writing. You will be able to “Read all about it!!”  soon.

jeudi le neuf novembre

We were learning how to use text marking to help us find information in a text. As well as highlighting, we were making some notes and question references next to the text.

Our football skills are really developing! There were great examples of moving into space today. Everyone is trapping the ball and intercepting with greater enthusiasm.

With Miss Thomson we were talking about substances that are safe or dangerous to put into the body. We had a great discussion with the whole class offering ideas.

mercredi le huit novembre

In our reading work today, we were using different types of answers and highlighting information on the text – we enjoyed showing our skills in different ways.

During ICT we were preparing a document ready to insert a table about furry pets, but we will be using the French pet names !

Roald Dhal group – read whole book   Please read p1-16 for Wednesday and p17-32 for Thursday

Number

We have been looking at number patterns this week. Everyone has their own number patterns to complete.  Remember to look at whether the pattern goes bigger or smaller and focus on the intervals between the numbers (e.g goes up in 1s, goes down in 10s.)

Try some of the different pattern and sequencing games and this site:

https://www.topmarks.co.uk/Interactive.aspx?cat=20

I have allocated some new games on Activelearn, so please try to access the site.

Interdisciplinary Learning – you have a fortnight for this task (due in latest 20th November)

Research a famous male or female Viking.

·         Where they were from

·         What they have done to make them famous

·         Any other interesting facts

·         Include a drawn or printed picture of the person.

In our P.E. lesson, we practised moving into space to get away from someone marking us. There were lots of great interceptions by the markers and some groups did manage to pass into space. We tried out our skills in small team games. Look at us spacing out so that our teams have a better chance of finding the goal!

In number today we were looking at number patterns and thinking of all the clues to help us work out the missing numbers.

Today we also practised forming and sizing lower case letters correctly. This is a skill which we need to master BEFORE we can start to join letters, so we need to work hard on this skill!

Have a great weekend everyone and stay safe if you are going anywhere near bonfires or fireworks.

mercredi le premier novembre

Today we were using our Rex and Dood skills that find and select the information to answer comprehension questions- we realised that we can find questions easier to answer when we use our reading book!!

In French we were learning to pronounce some Halloween words and revised our French colour words to make une sorcière appear.

We used the number generators to find numbers more than/less than using the place columns to help us calculate the answer.
