mercredi le vingt-huit mars

For HWB we were learning how to make Fruit Smoothies.

Many children found them DELICIOUS!

This morning we were invited to look at Primary 7’s Cities of the Future. We could vote for the city that we might like to live in ourselves, so we had to be able to explain our choice.

In ICT we were exploring Sumdog and more children now have a pet to look after.

In language we were learning about different types of non-fiction texts and we were using clues to help us recognise and match some features with the correct type of text.

vendredi le vingt-trois mars

We had lots of fun for Sports Relief! We were thinking of ways that make sure that we have good physical and mental health which links to Article 27. We were making up games that we could play in the gym hall so that everyone could be involved and take part to the best of their ability.

mercredi le vingt et un mars

Today we made scrambled eggs on toast with Mrs Rutherford. We all enjoyed the food and as you can see, it is important to clean up afterwards!

This afternoon we were learning  some parts of the body in French and are practising “Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes” to help us remember how to say the words (but we say feet instead of toes!).

Today we tried out a new interactive programme called Sumdog. It is really cool and we all enjoyed our first try of it. Everyone should have their login details and you can get access from home.

Homework 20/3/18 – 26/3/18

Language

Spelling words:

Practise writing out the eighth row three times.

·         Make up 6 interesting sentences using up-levelled VCOP. You are learning about WOW words, so please use some in your writing.

 Reading

This week, there is a sequencing activity about Scott of the Antarctic to complete.  Please make sure that you look carefully at each section of the information logically. Read each section first, think about the information given in each section. Cut out the sections and then put them into the correct order. Only stick them into your jotter when you are sure that the information makes sense.

 Number

You are making progress using the formal method (chimney sums) to subtract with exchange.

Complete your calculations carefully, thinking about one place value at a time.

vendredi le seize mars

Today we were learning about the balance of forces needed to keep an object up in the air for more than a few seconds. These forces are: lift, drag, weight and thrust. This afternoon, we tested out how to use these forces by making kites and using the air currents to help us  fly them.

mercredi le quatorze mars

Continuing the explorations for science week, today we investigated the effects of different liquids on candy canes!

This is what our jars of hot water, vinegar and oil looked like after 5 minutes.

These were the results after 30 minutes, the hot water dissolved the candy cane fastest, followed by the cold water, the vinegar and as you can see, the candy cane in the oil has not changed.

We used our knowledge about sugar dissolving in hot water to conclude that the hot water worked quickly to dissolve the candy cane because of the amount of sugar in it!

In language we were comparing the features of a fiction and a non-fiction book. We realised that some features are found in both types of texts!

Tuesday 13th March 2018

We continued our science week work finding out about Alexander Graham Bell and the invention of the telephone.  We worked in groups to research facts about him.  We made the most of the better weather by playing games outside at gym time.  We all had great fun!

British Science week 2018  – theme for this year is exploration and discovery

Let’s research an important discovery!  Here are some suggestions:

·         Penicillin

·         Gravity

·         Dinosaur footprints ( found on Skye – several web sites are available)

·         Neolithic civilisation (found on Skara Brae https://www.ks2history.com/skara-brae)

·         Antarctic – Explorations to the South Pole in 1912-1913

OR you can write about a different discovery that interests you.

Write or word process an interesting report or factfile. Your work must include detailed information about: who, what, where, when and why to make the information clear to the reader.

Use section headings, clear paragraphs and pictures to make your details clear and easily readable!

Science Week!

This is science week at Woodlands. This afternoon we did an Ancient Poo Investigation but don’t worry, it wasn’t real poo!  Analysing fossilised poo is very important as it can tell us what people used to eat and what their diet was like. It is also possible to find out what farming was like, changes in food trends and where foods were imported from.

Mr a Green visited P4 today to give us some very exciting news. One of our class members won a highly commended certificate and goody bag for her JRSO Slogan competition. We are all very proud of her. Well done!

vendredi le neuf mars

We had a great time today! Not only did we sing brilliantly at the Pancake Breakfast, but we also focused on literacy for World Book Day. We highlighted information from a text to create a character profile of Mary Poppins and we designed a new book cover using the information we had discovered when we listened to Chapter One. We also found out that characters can be portrayed differently between a book and a film!
