At present around 250 pupils throughout North Lanarkshire are learning to play string instruments as part of the Authority’s instrumental tuition provision.  In addition to weekly lessons in schools pupils are offered the opportunity to rehearse and perform with one or more of the North Lanarkshire music groups.

The Junior String Orchestra offers those pupils who are at the beginning of their musical journey an opportunity to make music with their peers in a stimulating and challenging musical environment.

Rehearsals take place on a Friday after school from 4.15pm – 6.15pm in Coatbridge High School where the pupils work towards a Christmas Concert in Motherwell Concert Hall and a Spring concert held in the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall.
