Home Learning

Welcome to our home school learning page. Until we return to school all the work you need to complete will be posted here.

KEEPING IN TOUCH

We will be using Teams to communicate this week and are hoping to start using a platform called Vscene from Monday 18th January to interact with the class as this allows us all to see each other whilst we are talking, unlike on Teams. Teams will continue to be used to post work, pictures and as a chat room.

HOW DO I USE VSCENE?

Vscene is really easy to use!

  • Log on to your Glow email account.
  • Look for the Vscene link inviting you to a meeting with Mrs Sheikh or Mrs Gaw.
  • Click on the link and this will take you direct to the meeting.

DAILY CHECK INS

  • On a Monday, Wednesday and Friday there will be a morning and an afternoon check in. This will be to go over daily tasks in the morning and marking in the afternoon. Any questions regarding set work can be answered during these meetings.
  • It is really important that you join these check ins as much as possible, so that we can explain new tasks and discuss any issues.
  • Mrs Sheikh and Mrs Gaw are supporting pupils in school on a Tuesday and Thursday so will therefore not be available.

WHAT WILL I BE DOING FOR HOME LEARNING?

  • Every Monday morning go onto the class blog , click on the menu Home School Learning  and select the tab dated with the new week’s work. (Example: Home Learning week beginning 11th January 2021)
  • There will be a weekly timetable. This will have information reminding you when you are meeting with us and Mrs Rowan (support pupils only). It will also show you the work we are covering that week.
  • Below the weekly timetable, we will write in more detail the tasks for each day, with links to resources.
  • All tasks should be submitted by the end of each week on the appropriate Teams channel. Each Literacy and Numeracy group have their own channels to post work or discuss any of the work set.
  • We will also post instructional power-points on Vscene to support learning when required.
  • Mrs McDougall will also be posting activities on her Music blog and this will be timetabled into our week.
  • On a Monday and a Friday, we will be meeting with individual reading groups on Teams to go over tasks. Check the timetable to see the allocated time for your group.

HOW WILL MY HOME LEARNING BE ASSESSED?

  • Your participation in meetings, completion of online tasks set on Bug Club, Sum Dog and Education City will all be monitored using the tools on these platforms.
  • A photograph of written tasks should be sent to the appropriate Teams channel as evidence, after we have marked them at our afternoon check in.
  • In your ‘Home Learning’ pack you have been issued with a square and a lined jotter. These can be used for written tasks when required. (Please remember to date and title your work).
  • In your ‘Home Learning’ pack you have also been issued with literacy and numeracy booklets.
  • The booklets target learning planned for Term 3 and it is important that you complete these as part of your weekly work program when instructed. The booklets should not be ‘worked through’ and rushed as this will make it difficult to track your learning and support you. Please only complete the allocated pages for each week.

To all our lovely Primary 6 pupils remember, a big part of being a good learner is you taking responsibility for your learning.  Home learning is a great opportunity for you to do this and we would love it if you could try to engage with home learning as much as possible to ensure you progress in your learning. We are here to help and support you and appreciate that circumstances are different for everyone. If you have any questions or concerns please just get in touch with us through Teams or email.

Finally, to all of the amazing Primary 6 parents/carers, we appreciate that this is a very challenging time and homeschooling can be extremely stressful. We are here to help and support you in any way possible. We’ll get through this! 🙂
