Check out our new art gallery inspired by our project: The Scottish Enlightenment
Our architectural drawings are a tribute to the wonderful work of Robert Adam, an architect during the Enlightenment period. Adam’s designs can be seen in buildings in Glasgow and Edinburgh; however Adamesque buildings can be found all over the country, created by those inspired by his work.
Alexander Nasmythwas a portratit and landscape artist who created the only portrait done of Robbie Burns, a good friend of his. Because of his political views, he was shunned, and the wealthy did not want him doing their portraits. He then became famous for his landscape work, which we have replicated.
See you tomorrow,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice
REMINDERS: 1. ECO homework : to design and ECO mascot – To be done by Monday 4th March 2. Pupil Progress Update: appointment slips went out today – If you still have not handed this in; hand it back tomorrow by the latest; or we will not be able to issue an appointment
This month’s theme within Citizenship was – ‘Look After School Property’. The pupils who came over to the P6/7 building watched a video which detailed ways in which pupils can look after their school.
We made our own video. Watch it below:
[kml_flashembed movie="http://www.youtube.com/v/1Xa5xCGgnt0" width="425" height="344" allowfullscreen="true" fvars="fs=1" /] Looking After Our School – CLICK HERE!
The advice we gave in the video was:
Put PE equipment back where you found it
Always tidy away your tray at lunch
Put your bike away safely and tidily in the bike shed
Make sure you put your rubbish in the bin
Take care of your belongings – make sure your name is on them
Put away equipment once you have finished playing with it
Keep the cloakroom tidy – using the boxes for shoes, and the pegs for bags and coats
Keep the classroom tidy by putting your things away
See you tomorrow,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice
Well done to our Mathletes – who solved the time problem over the weekend. Excellent work from Aileen and Morven who scored 6 out of 6. Kieran, Michaela, Kirsty, Catherine, Amy and Ewan also attempted the challenge and performed well.
Each pupil who gave it a go was awarded a competing prize, with Aileen winning the overall challenge prize.
WELL DONE to those who took part. Look out for future challenges!
In Numeracy and Maths today, there were 16 different time problems which pupils had to try and answer. We will be looking again at these next week to discuss solutions!
See you tomorrow,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice
REMINDER: All parent/carer Pupil Progress Update (Parent/Carer interview) slips have to be in TOMORROW. We will be handing out the slips for this on Wednesday.
Design an ECO mascot
Your homework, for next Monday 4th March, is to design an ECO mascot. A winner will be selected from the entries, and used as the ECO mascot for Lochardil Primary School. See the pictures below for a couple examples of mascot examples which other schools use.
If you need A4 paper, we will give this out tomorrow!
Following on from our blog post on time yesterday, we thought we’d end the week with a challenge. Below, there are 6 different time challenges. Give them a go over the weekend, and post your answers on the blog. From those people who get the correct answers, we will choose one winner on Monday. If you bump into anyone from P6/7 over the weekend, let them know it’s on the blog- that way they’ll be in with a chance to win it!
Over the next few weeks, in numeracy and maths, we’re going to be looking at time!
By the end of time we’d like everyone to be able to tell the time using am and pm and 24hour clock. In addition to this we aim for everyone to be able to calculate durations in hours and minutes. Some people will calculate durations in seconds and milliseconds, as well as using timetables to find information and plan activities.
This time video brings us back to basics. What is a minute, hour, day?
These two games are great. On the first game, you can choose to do basic time, am/pm, or 24 hour clock. Test yourself and let us know how you get on. The second game will test your ability to calculate time durations.
What a fantastic day yesterday was- a fantastic group extremely tired pupils and staff today! You were all fabulous and amazing. Your final performance scored 100% from your toughest judge – Mr Cook. Well done for succesfully making him tear.
In addition to that, we picked up 7 awards which will be displayed within the school. The judges comments could not have been better. The word ‘OUTSTANDING’ which they used, really does portray the hard work of you all.
Watching the DVD today really highlighted how fantastic your performance was. Now we just need to find a way of copying it…
We’re hoping to put a performance on for parents/carers, however we need to source a suitable venue first.
Thank you to all the parent/carer helps who assisted yesterday- we couldn’t have done it without you!
Its 6.30 pm – and in 14 hours time, we’ll be meeting in the foyer of Eden Court.
The dress rehearsals got progressively better today- even reaching a 96% from ‘nasty judge’ Mr Cook, even though Mrs Prentice, our resident Karen Barber (Dancing on Ice) had a tear in her eye. You’re aiming for 100% tomorrow- your aim- to make Mr Cook shed a tear!
REMINDERS:
– Meeting at 8.30am in Eden Court
– Collected at 7.30pm from Eden Court
– Wear School Uniform, bringing your Rock Challenge clothes in your bag
– Make sure you have enough food and juice to keep you going for the day
Three very excited teachers,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice

Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice
FINAL REMINDER: If you’re wanting pizza on the night of Rock Challenge, pizza money is due tomorrow, FRIDAY 8th February at the latest!
Today was our last Rock Challenge rehearsal before the February holiday. We’re almost ready, but have a few finishing touches to iron out on the first day back. Our technical team have a fanastic lighting and video plan created, which will capture the hard work and efforts of everyone on stage.
Unfortunately, due to space, we wont be able to do a performance for parents/carers BEFORE the Eden Court performance. Logistically, with the stage being closed off currently, it is difficult.
If you’d like to see the full Eden Court performance, tickets can be sourced by clicking the link below:

After Mr Cook finally managed to convince Mrs Prentice that there were three types of rock: Igneous, Sedimentary and Metamorphic (ROCK CHALLENGE IS NOT THE 4th), we were able to become Rockstar Geologists like James Hutton.
Our challenge, using the knowledge we had gained, was to categorise a sample of rocks which had been provided at 13 different stations. The task was tricky as some were difficult to distinguish, especially between sedimentary and metamorphic. Some of the igneous rocks looked heavy, but when you picked them up they were extremely light, foamy in fact.
Check out January’s Pupils of the Month within P6/7!
Leon C – Leon has dedicated his time and effort to perfecting his role within Rock Challenge. He’s spent his lunchtimes each day working with the teachers, and has taken all their advice on board as to how to perfect his character.
Calum M – Since joining Lochardil in November, Calum has fit into the P6/7 team excellently, making friends with others in the class.
Kieran K – Kieran has demonstrated his ability to be a great listener whilst supporting his friends and peers both in the playground and the classroom.
Well done boys! Keep up the hard work!
REMEMBER: Your Rock category, and website homework. Check the blog post below for more info
They will then need to input their User ID and Password which is on their user details slip given in class today.
Each pupil has two challenges to complete by Sunday 17th February 2013. If you have a problem accessing the internet, you can use the computers within school at lunchtime before Friday. Each game will take around 10 minutes.
I am able to track your scores – make sure you try your best! Let me know if you’ve got any problems!
James Hutton, a Geologist during the Scottish Enlightenment, discovered that he could estimate the age of the Earth using Rocks. Later this week we will be clasifying rocks using his categories.
See you tomorrow,
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice
Reminder: Bring ALL of your outfits/props for Rock Challenge on Monday, as this is our first dress rehearsal.
Today’s blog has been written by Jamie.L, Molly.F and Cameron.McC. P6/7 have visited Bibleworld, a mobile interactive learning resource, at the IRA the past two days.
Bible world was a fun experience for all young pupils, and we all learnt a lot. It was split up into 6 sections.
The first section was about: How the world was created and how we live. We got to look at the different planets and facts about them. We also learnt about how we can keep the world as God had made it.
The second section was about:
Christian music and famous Christian singers. It was a musical interactive zone where the music gave us a clue to answer questions from stories in the bible. It was very fun and we really enjoyed it.
The third section was about:
A library when we had to find out the missing books in the old testament, and the new testament. It was very interesting to find out about these things as some of us did not know anything about this.
The fourth thing was about:
A museum in which we explored the different types of ways people used to write. We also found out that the monks wrote some of the bible in a strange way, this was called cuneiform. This was done in symbols, it was written with a reed stylus and it was done on clay.
The fifth thing was about:
A plane, we got to watch how all the different countries lived and how they react to getting the bible. It was really cool and interesting.
The sixth thing was about:
A quiz where first you answered a question and there were boxes you had to open; and in them were things you had to answer questions about.
We have all learnt something new and have enjoyed this experience.
Cameron McC, Molly F and Jamie L
We’d like to wish you a great weekend!
Mr.Cook, Mrs.MacLeod and Mrs.Prentice
