Our first week in Room 20

We’ve had an amazing first week in Room 20. We’ve done so much work already.

We did an art piece about the things that are inside our head.  We could use different media such as paint, coloured pencils, pens or water colours.  We drew an outline of a head and then coloured and drew the things that were inside it e.g. penguins, sports, school, the beach, food and music.

When we come in in the morning, we have lots of games set up so we can play and learn lots of skills.  We call this ‘Morning Club’.  There are lots of different things to do such as table tennis, colouring, construction, tic tac toe and drawing.  It helps us come in and have a relaxed start to the day.  It also develops our skills such as hand-eye coordination, social skills, problem solving and concentration.  We will be deciding more activities to introduce into Morning Club in the next few weeks.

We have also been working on our new class book ‘The Nowhere Emporium’.  We started with looking at prior knowledge to make predictions and connections.  We then made a visualisation of the shop.  Mr. JC was very impressed with the detail in our work.  Today we used our visualisation to help make a summary about the shop.  Mr. JC said they were amazing because they were really detailed.

Most importantly, we have started to work on our class charter.  We decided to include four main rights which will be our class values.  We selected ‘the right to be heard’, ‘the right to learn,’ ‘the right to play’ and ‘the right to be safe’ as our most important rights.  We had a vote and decided on the theme of ‘Spongebob Squarepants’.  We all made a figure of ourselves as ‘Sandy’ to add to the display.

We’ve had an excellent first week and we know we will have the same next week.
