Room 4 – Trip to the Museum of Rural Life

What a fantastic day we had on Wednesday for our class trip to the National Museum of Rural Life!

The excitement began before we even arrived. The children absolutely loved the bus journey, chatting happily and spotting both new and familiar places along the way. There were lots of excited voices saying, “I’ve been there!”

Although the rain came along too, it certainly didn’t stop the fun! We put on our jackets and walked along the trail to the farm. The children took part in a scavenger hunt, carefully looking for different items around them. The rain did make our paper a little soggy, but that just added to the adventure!

When we reached the farm, the children were very excited to spot calves, dairy cows, bulls, pigs and piglets, hens and horses. The cows were very smelly – which caused lots of giggles! It was a wonderful opportunity to see real farm animals up close and talk about how they are cared for.

We then headed back to the museum building to warm up during our Farm to Fork workshop. We learned all about where our food comes from and thought carefully about which animals give us different foods. The children explored how milk is turned into butter using a traditional butter churn and even had a turn trying it themselves. We also looked at how wheat is ground into flour using a traditional quern stone and compared it to a modern-day grain mill. It was fascinating to see how methods have changed over time.

In the afternoon, we explored the Garden Detectives area, looking closely at insects and other living things in their habitats. We also visited the Tractor Store, where we saw different tractors and talked about how they have evolved over the years.

We are so proud of how beautifully the children represented our school throughout the trip.

Thank you for your continued support.
