Writing and IDL – For our topic (IDL), we’re studying World War 2. We learnt about how the war started and then we started thinking about the parts of the war we were most interested in. Individually, we researched facts and put these into information reports during writing. Some of our classmates have been bringing in war memorabilia which has been cool to look at! Charlie brought in medals and photos, Chloe brought in photos and a WW1 ‘death penny’ medal, Amelia brought in a soldier’s helmet and canteen (metal water bottle) and Jude brought in his dad’s army uniform for us to compare against the WW2 uniform he brought in last week. We even got to try on his gas mask! This week we learned about the evacuation at Dunkirk and worked in groups of land, sea and air rescue teams. We had to consider what would be the most important things to consider while trying to rescue the 400,000 soldiers stranded on the beach.
Safer Internet Day – We watched along with the BBC live event about AI chatbots. It talked about what information you shouldn’t give to a chatbot and that sometimes the information it gives isn’t always correct.
Art – A few weeks ago, we were given a homework task to take a photo of some objects that represent us as individual people, we didn’t know what for though! We could arrange the items in any way we wanted and then had to send them to our teacher. We found out this week that it’s for still life drawings in class! Miss Napier printed our photos out over a grid layout and we’re trying to draw the photos square by square to create realistic drawings. Fingers crossed!
Maths – Lately, we’ve been studying angles, perimeter, area and volume. We drew lots of rectangles to create robots and then calculated the area of them, used lots of rectangles and then calculated the area, we made robots by doing this. We have also been doing volume which is the amount of space inside a 3D object. We measured the length, width and height of objects around the class to work out their volume.
Crazy Hair Day – Today we had crazy hair day and everyone came in with crazy hairstyles. We saw that someone had even attached a huge balloon in their head! Well done to Lily in our class for her Easter treat themed hair!
Drama – For drama we wrote diary entries on certain scenarios that would have happened to children during WWII.
Curling – We were inspired by the Winter Olympics and tried a new sport in PE this week… Curling! We changed the rules a bit and did boys v girls teams. The girls won!
