It’s been a busy first week back in Room 20 after the October holiday.
We’ve started our new topic ‘The History of Scotland’. We selected key events from Scotland’s past to create a timeline. We went as far back as the eruption of the volcano where Edinburgh Castle now sits, right through to the newest First Minister being selected this year.
We have started to learn some old Glaswegian songs. This week, we learned ‘The Jeely Piece’ song which is all about children who moved out of the tenements of Glasgow and into high rise flats. They were not happy to miss out on their extra meal of a ‘piece flung oot the windae’.
In Maths, we are continuing to develop our addition skills. We are able to add numbers up to 1,000,000 using the written method and also learned about adding numbers with up to 3 numbers after the decimal point.
We’ve started reading our new group reading books this week too. One group are reading ‘Saving Finnegan’ and the other is reading ‘The Fox Girl and the White Gazelle’. This week we looked at the cover and blurb to think of prior knowledge and to make predictions. We also started visualisations of the characters in each book.
In PE, we’ve started learning about Volleyball with Mr JC. We learned about the ‘ready position’ and how to serve underhand.
With Mr. MacKay, we have started hockey and how to dribble and pass.
We are looking forward to another great week next week.
