Digital Milestones: Your Children Have Sent Their Very First Emails!

It has been a remarkably exciting week in the classroom! We are absolutely thrilled to share a fantastic digital milestone that we have just achieved. This week, our class logged on, typed up, and proudly hit “send” on our very first emails.

Who was the lucky recipient of this digital avalanche? None other than Mrs Robinson, who has been absolutely delighted reading through all of our wonderful messages!

Why were we Emailing the Deputy Head?

While sending an email might feel like second nature to adults, for us, it is a brand-new adventure in communication. Writing to our Deputy Head Teacher provided a safe, familiar, and exciting target for our first digital dispatch.

Here is a quick look at the vital skills we were building through this activity:

  • Digital Literacy: We practised navigating keyboards, understanding how email addresses work, and finding that ever-important “@” symbol.

  • Safe & Polite Communication: We spent time discussing internet safety and the “netiquette” of sending messages. We learned how to open with a polite greeting and sign off correctly.

  • Core Literacy Skills: Typing an email is a brilliant way to disguise spelling, grammar, and punctuation practice! We worked hard to structure our sentences so that Mrs Robinson would understand our messages perfectly.

  • Confidence Building: There was a real buzz of accomplishment in the room when we finally clicked the send button.
