This term, we have been busy exploring coding and problem-solving using the INDI Robots, and the classroom has been full of excitement, teamwork and fantastic thinking!
We have explored how the INDIs work. We discovered that the robot follows coloured tiles placed on the floor. Each colour tells INDI what to do — move forward, turn left or right, speed up, slow down or stop.
The class quickly realised that robots need clear and careful instructions. If the tiles weren’t in the correct order, INDI didn’t reach its destination — which led to lots of great discussion about what went wrong and how to fix it.
Although it looks like play (and it certainly is fun!), the children were developing important skills like:
-
Sequencing – understanding what comes first, next and last
-
Directional language – using left, right, forward and stop correctly
-
Problem-solving – identifying mistakes and improving solutions
-
Collaboration – listening to others and sharing ideas
-
Perseverance – not giving up when something didn’t work
