Our Fortnight in Room 24

Last Week:

On Tuesday afternoon we had Mrs Reilly do drama/health and wellbeing with us. We got into groups and had to choose ‘What Would You Do?’ scenarios to act out from cards in a pile. These scenarios were about online safety, and were things that the police have had to deal with in the past. Things like someone you don’t know chatting to you online and asking you to meet up with them after school, or receiving a threatening message asking you to do something ‘or else.’ We talked about these after each group acted them out and discussed what we should do if it ever happens.

Ms Ryan & Ms White came from Uddingston Grammar to do a lesson with us about our dream high school. We had to write a story about what we would like in our dream high school, and who the teachers would be, what subjects there would be and who would be our friends.

Miss Thom came to visit us on Thursday. She’ll be coming in over the next few Thursdays and then will be in every day from the start of March, until the end of May.

On Friday Jude brought in some World War II memorabilia for our topic. His Great Grandpa fought in the War and we got to look at his medals, his uniform and his soldiers service and pay book! Jude also had a German soldier’s armband to show us, along with some German medals, some photos of German soldiers and a 1941 German copy of Hitler’s ‘Mein Kampf’ book! It was so cool to see all these things!

This Week:

We mixed together art and maths twice this week! We made Symmetry Monsters by writing our names normally and  them writing them symmetrically on the other side of the paper. We then turned our names into monsters and aliens, trying hard to keep everything symmetrical! We were also using compasses and learning to draw circles with different radii and diameters. We used our skills to create a piece of repeated circles artwork. Most of us are still finishing the colouring in bit so we’ve only got a couple of photos to show so far.

We did more drama but with Miss O’Brien. We had to act out what parts of World War 2 would have been like, like if a bomb had dropped nearby. We got to show the rest of the class once we’d practised.

With Miss Napier, we made posters about how World War 2 started. We had to add information about the leaders of each country, who the allied and axis powers were and write a short paragraph explaining what led to the war starting.

In P.E, Miss Napier taught us a new game called ‘Rock, Paper, Scissors, Jump.’ Lots of us hadn’t played it before and it was so fun! The time went by really quickly because the next thing we knew, we had to go back inside for lunch!
