Congratulations to Odhran Leeson of S3 who recently won the Scottish Book Trust 50 word Fiction Competition! The prompt was: a family meal (written in 50 words). Here is his winning entry:
It was dinner time. The Connellys were ready to eat the succulent roast chicken in front of them. Kenny, the dad, was about to cut it when, suddenly, it lunged at him. Gobbled him down and swallowed him whole. The rest sat in stunned silence imagining death by chicken.

“Speech is power”
We are so proud of our Hillhead HS pupils who recently took part in the Glasgow schools public speaking competition. Pupils from all over Glasgow demonstrated their public speaking skills at the Glasgow City Chambers. A massive round of applause for Lewis Harris who made it to the final stages of the competition!
For pupils in National 5 or Higher English, we recommend the following textbooks (below) for some extra summer revision on close reading skills. You can always check out the SQA website for past papers too: http://www.sqa.org.uk/pastpapers/findpastpaper.htm?subject=English&level
