Book Week Scotland!

Happy Book Week Scotland!

Our S2 Literacy Leaders have been busy making posters around the school to celebrate reading!
They will also be visiting S1 classes during English time to award top readers of our First Minister’s Reading Challenge (so far!)

This Wednesday, we will have a whole school book swap in the foyer outside the canteen! Bring a book to swap and get a new one for a cosy night in reading!
Staff are invited to DEAR at a time of their choosing!

Happy reading!

Junior Book Club visit the Edinburgh Book Festival

On Friday 23rd August, Miss Lawrie took the Junior Book Club to the Edinburgh Book Festival to see MUHAMMAD KHAN & TOM POLLOCK: VIRTUAL REALITIES. Authors of two gripping and powerful new novels, they were taking a look at the world of internet-based relationships, rapturous online fandoms and cyber bullying.

In Book Club we read I am Thunder, Khan’s first novel and really enjoyed it. Having listened to him talk about his new book, Kick the Moon, we would really like to read this with the Book Club too!

S2 Literacy Leaders!

We are looking for S2 pupils who are enthusiastic about reading, writing and leading literacy events and activities at Hillhead. Look for these posters around the school and see Miss Rothery and Miss Lawrie for further information!!

And the creative response winner is….

Well done to Pearl from 1E who won our creative response challenge! Her response was based on the novel The Mystery of the Colour Thief by Ewa Jozefkowicz. Her entry carefully detailed each character’s point of view with sophisticated vocabulary and some incredible illustrations.
