The day was full of suspense and excitement as pupils and staff anxiously waited to hear the announcement to drop everything and read! It was so lovely to see the whole school enjoying the wonderful world of reading! We look forward to next term with more secret D.E.A.R events!

Our Advanced Higher English pupils have been creating some incredible pieces of writing! Their work has been published into a creative writing anthology and an electronic version will be uploaded soon.
The BBC Radio 2 500 words competition is now open! Entries are open until 7pm on Thursday 22nd February. All stories must be submitted via the online form on the BBC Radio 2 website. This competition is only available for pupils 5-13 (S1 and some S2). To enter you need to write an original story that is no more than 500 words long.

Congratulations to Ivan Myachykov of S6 who, having been successful at the Heats stage of the proceedings at St Aloysius’ College in November, went on to represent HIllhead High School in the Final of the prestigious Glasgow Schools Public Speaking Competition.
The Glasgow Speakers Club is the oldest public speaking organisation in the United Kingdom, formed in 1937 and has held an annual public speaking competition since 1956.
On the evening of Monday 4th December in the Debating Chamber at Glasgow City Chambers, Ivan delivered a seven minute speech on the topic of Homelessness to an invited audience, members of the Glasgow Speaker’s Club, a panel of judges and Baillie Anne McTaggart.

Our S6 pupils from the English and Drama departments recently went to see Tennessee William’s American classic, A Streetcar Named Desire. We enjoyed this spectacular play at the Theatre Royal in Glasgow ( the oldest theatre in the city!)
