An Overview of Literacy Leaders:
This newly created role is for enthusiastic pupils in S2 who have a passion for reading, writing, talking and listening. This fabulous role was created during our First Minister’s Reading Challenge in 2018-2019. This role is for pupils who want to gain leadership experience, build their confidence and contribute to promoting the reading culture at Hillhead High School.
In S1 all pupils will be encouraged to engage with our Reading Challenge throughout the year (for more information on this, please click on the tab on our homepage!). In the spring when the timetable changes, we will then begin the process of advertising for potential Literacy Leaders.
How to become a Literacy Leader:
If you are interested in becoming a Literacy Leader, there is an application consisting of 4 questions and then a mini interview. This is excellent experience (for the big world out there!) and an opportunity for you to share your ideas and reasons of why you are an ideal candidate! Applications and interviews are conducted in May/Early June just after you have completed the First Minster’s Reading Challenge in S1. We are looking for pupils who engaged with the Reading Challenge, can reflect on their experiences and are happy to help lead this with the new S1 arriving the following August. Even if you are not the fastest reader or the most confident speaker, if you have a passion for this role, please consider applying! All welcome!
*This year, we had over 30 applications and only 10 were selected! A very difficult process, but inspiring to see so many pupils applying. Well done to all!!
–> Applications!!
