We wrote descriptions then swapped and others had to draw what we had written then we checked if they were right. We shared them on the big screen and they were all amazing! Everyone is an amazing drawer in our class. Elena-Rose

Our Commitment to Equality

At Wallacewell EVERYONE IS WELCOME. Last year we refreshed our Equality Policy which highlights our commitment to celebrating and promoting diversity across our school        community. We believe that all learners have a right to learn in an equitable environment where all cultures, religions, identities and languages are recognised and valued and where the curriculum responds positively to the diverse needs of individual learners, reflecting the    uniqueness of their communities.

As you will be aware, last session we focused on developing understanding of racial equality through our health and wellbeing programme. Through self evaluation and quality  assurance, including discussions with our children, we have decided to continue to focus on promoting and developing race equality and anti-racist education again this session.

Unfortunately we are aware of racist incidents that have occurred out with school within our local community. We, and schools across the country, also continue to  manage a variety of racist incidents involving pupils in school. Whilst we have little control over what happens within our local communities and cannot control the actions of others, we will not tolerate racism of any kind within our school community. As such any racists incidents, such as name calling, will be  managed as per our Anti-Bullying Policy.

To promote and develop racial equality families can support us by—

  • encouraging positive and open conversations about race and racism at home
  • having conversations about race and racism often, not just when it’s in the news or when an incident occurs
  • supporting children to understand the lived experience of ethnically minority groups

P1c – Enchanted Forest

The children have been enjoying their new topic, Enchanted Forest. In the playroom the children have engaged well with all experiences. They especially loved creating soundscapes with all the different instruments and creating their very own enchanted forest picture. Well done P1c!

P3a This week

This was a slightly shorter week but we still managed to get lots done.  In writing we have continued on with our discursive writing and the children are making great progress. We were also using different activities in spelling to recap all our phoneme sounds.

It was week 3 of our Active Play sessions and again we were lucky with the weather.

In Maths we were focussing on the seasons and the months of the year as well as continuing to practise our place value through games.

Finally we continued on with our learning in our Creative play area.


It’s been another busy week in p5a, the children have been working on addition in maths and demonstrating their knowledge of a wide range of strategies, it’s lovely to see their confidence grow! In literacy our focus has been on persuasive writing, where they have written super letters using lots of persuasive features. We managed to finish our Roman Mosaics and they look fantastic! However the highlight of our week was receiving our own iPads! We have spent some time familiarising ourselves with these and exploring the apps. We are excited to use them to support and enhance our learning this year!

SCHOOL TRANSPORT ASSISTANCE

We to remind families about the School Travel Assistance provided by Glasgow City Council (GCC). GCC provide transport for children and young people who live more than 1.2 miles from their local catchment primary school by the shortest suitable walking route and more than 2.2 miles from their local catchment secondary school by the shortest suitable walking route. This is slightly more generous than the statutory obligation.
