Welcome to Term 4

Primary 3b have settled back into class and have been working hard. We have enjoyed using metre sticks and rulers to measure the perimeter of shapes around and outside the classroom. We have also begun to think about expanding our range of numbers and using different strategies when calculating equations in numeracy. We have started our new session in the gym hall, beginning to measure our improving fitness levels and embarking on circuit training activities. We have been using clues from text to make predictions about what might happen in the story. We have also written some familiar stories from a different perspective. We have had a little introduction to our new topic of Castles. We are looking forward to finding more out about this as the weeks pass. In PATHS, we have been considering the importance of good manners. We will be looking over the next few weeks at dictionary skills and have been looking at alphabetical order in preparation for that. We have also enjoyed using pointillism techniques in our art session this week. We are looking forward to an exciting and productive final term.

P4b

It has been a busy week in P4b where we have taken part in lots of new learning and made the most of the lovely weather.

I enjoyed creating symmetrical pictures and paintings. Jessica

I know that symmetry is when you get the mirror image on the opposite side of the shape. Charlie

We can check if something is symmetrical using a mirror along the centre. Cooper L

A line of symmetry goes through the centre of the object. You can get more than one line of symmetry sometimes. Ruaridh R

We went outside to explore and took photos of symmetry in our environment. Some patterns and symmetry were in nature and some were in man-made objects. Finn

We drew the lines of symmetry on our photos of flowers, leaves, the climbing frame, benches and lots more. Poppy

Miss Bruce has taught us about primary and secondary sources and this will help us research for our personal projects. We will be using our writing skills to take notes and create a project. I am reporting on Hades. Drew

I am happy that we get to choose what we want to learn about. Samuel

Term 4 already

It has been lovely being back after Spring Break. The children have all been eager to learn and excited to share their holiday experiences.

We have started back into our routines and had a lot of fun.

We have been reading the story Stuck by Oliver Jeffers and predicting what we thought happened next. The story made us laugh and no-one knew what was going to happen because Floyd does lots of strange things. We are still working on some artwork to go with the story.

We pretended to be pirates when we were learning co-ordinates. Co-ordinates helped us to find our buried treasure.

We continued with our treasure hunt as we did our revision sums which were hidden around the class.

We enjoyed the good weather by taking our learning outdoors and let our imagination go wild as we played with empty boxes.

Ask the children to share their learning experience’s about what they have being doing this week.

This week in P7b…

Week one of term 4 has been busy in P7b. We’ve been making big swings in P.E starting off our block of rounders with Miss Kelly.

We have been exploring Roman Numerals in maths and have been able to apply our knowledge to solve problems.

We have started our unit on film literacy by looking at the short film ‘The Ball’ and have been learning how to identify camera angles and sound used in film and have been trying to describe how they impact the viewer.

Our spelling tests went very well with more than half the class getting full marks and the rest not being far off.

We have started on our topic of ‘The Movies’ by having a look at the film making process and hope to be able to apply this knowledge to create films of our own soon.

First week of Term 4 in P1c

Welcome back P1c, what a fantastic week have had as we transition into our last term in Primary 1. The children have worked incredibly hard and have show dedication to their learning. This week the children have enjoyed reviewing past knowledge through games and active learning stations. In HWB the children have been focusing on teamwork and collaboration. The children have really enjoyed their P.E lessons this week. They have been learning how to throw a ball to a partner and how to strike a ball with a bat. Take a look at some of our learning.

The first week of term 4

This week P5b have been very busy. Our first topic in STEM and topic is Sustainability. We have been planting seeds and learning about plants to help birds and insects. We need empty, clean milk bottles to make into watering cans and to collect rain water.

In maths we have been revising addition and subtraction using different strategies. I am very pleased with the effort all the children have made to learn.

P6a have enjoyed creating moon buggies in the STEM room. On Tuesday we drew our designs and added labels.  Then on Wednesday we used lots of pieces of junk, tape, lollipop sticks, paper straws and toothpicks to build our models.

Last week in P4a

This week, we rounded off our Viking topic by creating amazing non-chronological reports. We also worked in pairs to complete a Viking quiz and made our own Viking artifacts out of clay. We have learned so much!
In PE, we had another fun football session, focusing on controlled dribbling and passing.
In maths, we explored tessellation and enjoyed taking part in active stations. We also did a maths-themed Easter egg hunt, which was a fun way to apply our learning!
The children have worked incredibly hard this term, and I hope everyone has a wonderful Easter holiday. Miss Maclennan and P4a

Happy Easter in P3a

We had a fun last week before the Easter holidays finishing our Vikings topic and getting outdoors to enjoy some of the sunny weather we have had. In writing we made a start at how to write an information report as that will be our writing focus next term.  We used our knowledge of the Vikings to produce some fantastic reports using book creator and then shared these with each other.  In maths we were working on estimating and weighing. Lots of fun was had using the scales and holding the different weights.  We also made a class Viking Longship using the STEM straws.  It was fabulous to see them all working together and they made a ship that the whole class was able to fit in to, complete with oars, a mast and a dragon head.  They have all worked extremely hard this term and hope everyone has a fantastic Easter 🐣 and are looking forward to term 4.
