Our School Eco Code

This week our Eco committee got together to write our Eco Code which is a reminder to us all about the steps we are need to take to help improve our school environment.  This was all their own work and I think their acrostic poem is a fantastic representation of our plans.

P5b We’ve had a busy week

This week we have been look at one point perspective art. We started by drawing a horizon line and a vanishing point and then used these to help us complete our city landscapes.

In Science we have been working on friction. We started by testing how different surfaces can change the speed of something then discussed what friction is and how friction can sometimes be helpful.

We then looked at air resistance and how the size of objects can be affected by the air.  We had lots of fun testing out our helicopters to see which one would fall quickest.

We have also had time to be creative with the blocks and lego and shown a steady hand to create a tower.

Library Visit P5b

P5b had a fun visit to the library this week as part of Book week Scotland.  We got the chance to borrow some books and look at some of the reference books related to our Natural Disaster topic as well as take part in some topic based activities.

Authors Live BBC Scotland – P3a

Today the children took part in a live lesson with author and illustrator Benji Davies. The lesson was run through Scottish Book Trust in partnership with BBC Scotland. The children listened to Benji Davies read his much loved book ‘The Great Storm Whale’. He then asked the children to become illustrators and showed us how to draw some of his well known characters. I think we might have some future illustrators in our class!

We are a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School!

We are a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School!

“Children have the right to be loved. Children have the right to make mistakes. With rights come responsibilities.”

Wallacewell Primary aim to be a school where children’s rights are at the heart of our ethos and culture, to improve well-being and to develop every child’s talents and abilities to their full potential.  As part of this plan we recently applied to Unicef Rights Respecting Schools for recognition of our work. We are delighted to share that we have been awarded our Rights Respecting Schools Bronze Award on behalf of Unicef UK.

Unicef is the world’s leading organisation working for children and young people and their rights. In 1989, governments across the world agreed that all children have the same rights by adopting the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC). These rights are based on what a child needs to survive, grow, participate and fulfil their potential.

Wallacewell Primary Primary pupils are learning about their rights and will continue to do so through the Rights Respecting School Programme by putting them into practice every day. A Rights Respecting School models rights and respect in all its relationships.

We really hope that you will be able to support our school on our journey towards becoming a Unicef UK Rights Respecting School. You can find out more about the Convention on the Rights of the Child by visiting https://www.unicef.org.uk/what-we-do/un-convention-child-rights/

Book Week Scotland – P3a

P3a have been busy for Book Week Scotland. Inspired by the story of Little Red Riding Hood the children retold this traditional tale by creating their own movies on the iPads using the iMovie app. They loved taking on different roles including director, camera operator, and actor. They collaborated and we loved watching the finished films! Ask us about some of the camera angles we were learning about.

The children also created their own monsters and turned them into comic strips on Book Creator. We can’t wait to write character descriptions about our own monsters for our writing lesson soon.

We were also very lucky to get to visit the community library, everybody got to select their own book which we will be reading in class. The children were very responsible on the walk to and from the library and represented WWP well. Well done P3a!

Thank You!!

This lovely P3 boy has very generously donated his old building blocks to our school, for his younger peers in P1 and P2 to use. Thank you so much R for such a kind and thoughtful gift!
