World Book Day – P3a

Thursday was World Book Day. The children celebrated by dressing up as their favourite book character or coming into school in their pyjamas. At assembly we heard some fabulous readers from all stages in our school, and of course D did P3a proud by reading a passage from his favourite Harry Potter book.

In class the celebrations continued and we turned our classroom into a ‘Reading Restaurant’. The children had the opportunity to discuss their favourite books and use HOT’s question dice to support their discussions. They then used drama to retell some of their favourite stories. The children loved writing sandwich book reports, and they had fun creating new characters at our ‘build a body buffet’. We all really enjoyed ourselves and loved having time to read some of our favourite stories.

Primary 2 have been learning a variety of sports skills.

In the first week they were developing their football skills and in the second week they have been learning basketball skills.

Not only have they learned important skills for these sports but they have worked as a team to support and encourage each other while having great fun!

Exploring halves

This week P2/1 have been learning all about halves. We had a go at halving shapes and numbers. To split a number in half we had to make sure both of our robots got the same number of cubes for a snack.

Explain Everything

Last week in Primary 4a we used a new app called ‘Explain Everything’ to display our research on Egyptian Pyramids. We worked with a partner to research pyramids and gather information then used our creativity skills to present our information in an engaging way

.

P7s Photosynthesis

On Friday P7s used the creative enquiry room to demonstrate their learning on photosynthesis. They create models of a flower using crafts that showed the different parts of a flower. They also created a diagram showing and explaining the photosynthesis cycle. Finally the pupils set up an experiment that aims to show the effects of sunlight on plant growth and will monitor the results over the coming weeks. Hopefully by the end we will have a nice crop of coriander!

Primary 3 Easter Showcase Prep

This week the children have been very busy getting ready for next weeks Easter Learning Showcase. Our learning has been focussing on expressive arts. We have been singing, using drama performance skills, playing instruments and creating art work to explore our Easter Topic. We have been working so hard and as always I am incredibly proud of what the children have achieved. Well Done P3a!

Fairtrade

P6 have been learning about fairtrade, focussing on how climate change impacts the farmers and people who reply on agriculture for a living. We also looked at at how everyone in the production chain of our food is paid and the fairness of this.

it has been great to see the children so invested in this and so inquisitive throughout our learning!

Natural Disasters P7A and P7B

This week in the Creative Enquiry Room P7a and P7b took part in experiments that helped demonstrate the causes and impacts of different Natural Disasters. The focus of the experiments was Earthquakes, Tornados and Tsunamis. P7 were able to show the process of liquification that occurs during some Earthquakes. They were also able to describe what causes a Tornado to form and what causes Tsunamis and the impact they have on coastal areas around the world.
