Another week in P5b

This week we started the week having a look at some of the countries that take part in the Olympics.  They worked together in small groups to research some facts and create either a poster either on paper or digitally.

We were also up in the Creative Enquiry continuing on with our DYW jobs.  We had some more finished outfits, a completed house and a working windmill.  We also have lots of advertisers busily planning.

In PE we were learning how we can mix Maths and PE with some fun team ball skill activities.

We have also been working on fractions and decimals in maths and writing a descriptive story.  We ended the week with music.  We have been learning about rap music and are now writing our own rap songs.

Fun Friday in P3A

On Friday this week the children had a wonderful visit to the community library. All the children were able to choose a book to take back to school with them. A big thank you to our adult helpers who came along with us.

On Friday afternoon we had some very special visitors. Fiona and her wonderful service dog Barnum, came to talk to the children about Canine Partners, the charity who trains assistance dogs like Barnum.  Fiona showed and talked about all the special things Barnum does to help her everyday. The children loved seeing Barnum do all his different jobs, and they loved their stickers too!

P5a

This week P5a have been writing short stories and learning to describe in some details , the setting of their story. Furthermore in Mathematics we have completed symmetry and revision of the 4 operations. They are all excited at the thought of the trip to the safari park on Wednesday. We are now hoping that the fine weather continues.

Mrs. Jodah

Upgraded entrance and car park to Wallacewell Primary.

We have inspected the drive since the workmen repainted the car park and the crossings on the driveway. It looks brighter and better now. You can see the crossing for children to cross over and the car park has lines that you can see. The disabled space is now closer to the main door.

We interviewed Miss Davidson about how she organised it. She had contacted lots of people from the council and got someone to do the lines. She thinks it is better and organised.

As the JRSO we like the driveway into school and think this will help with road safety.

PE

We have been working with the PEPASS team, so far we have been focussing on our throwing and passing skills with different balls and this week we were learning some golf skills. It has been good fun!

Growing salad

This week P5a have planted more lettuce, 🥬 spring onions 🧅 and wild flowers. We are trying to grow tomato 🍅 plants inside! As the children are learning about how to plant and grow vegetables and are still finding out about how to plant a delicate plant like lettuce! So far I am encouraged by their enthusiasm and commitment to looking after the vegetables outside. This is all part of our topic focusing on biodiversity.

Another great week in P3a

Following our evaluation of last weeks DYW activities, the children realised how important collaboration and teamwork is. To support this in P.E we completed a range of activities which require communication and team work. The children particularly loved the ball pass game and working with blindfolds.

In Numeracy and Maths the children are learning to recognise different fractions in shapes and have been learning to read analogue clocks. We have been supporting our learning with practical and active lessons which the pupils engage really well with.

We had such a great week and as always the children worked very hard. Have a lovely long weekend P3a!

Air Pollution Event

Last week some of the children attended an Air Pollution event at the City Chambers in Glasgow.  It started with some interesting presentations on the effects of air pollution on us and why it is important we try to take more action to reduce this.  We then got to view displays from other schools showing what they have been doing to try and help improve the air quality in their local communities.

Creativity in P5b

We continued our look at possible career options this week in the creative enquiry room.  Children were able to choose which job they would like and get an insight to what is involved.  We had lots of eager fashion designers who started by creating a mood board, sketching their design and then making their outfit.  We had lots of fantastic results.

Other job options were advertising, builder / architect or environmental scientist.  Most of these are still being worked on but there is lots of working together and problem solving happening and it is great to see their enthusiasm .

We finished our week practising our putting and chipping skills in PE.
