It’s been another busy week in p5a, the children have been working on addition in maths and demonstrating their knowledge of a wide range of strategies, it’s lovely to see their confidence grow! In literacy our focus has been on persuasive writing, where they have written super letters using lots of persuasive features. We managed to finish our Roman Mosaics and they look fantastic! However the highlight of our week was receiving our own iPads! We have spent some time familiarising ourselves with these and exploring the apps. We are excited to use them to support and enhance our learning this year!
Enchanted Forest
Primary 1b enjoying learning about the Enchanted Forest in the playroom. We are developing our creativity through exploring lots of fairytales.
PARENT COUNCIL FACEBOOK PAGE
At the beginning of the session our Parent Council created a Facebook page to help families keep up to date with the life and work of the Parent Council.
If you have a Facebook account the Parent Council would like to enocurage families to give them a like and a follow.
Click on the link below to access their page.
SCHOOL TRANSPORT ASSISTANCE
We to remind families about the School Travel Assistance provided by Glasgow City Council (GCC). GCC provide transport for children and young people who live more than 1.2 miles from their local catchment primary school by the shortest suitable walking route and more than 2.2 miles from their local catchment secondary school by the shortest suitable walking route. This is slightly more generous than the statutory obligation.
Further information about School Travel Assistance, and details on how to apply if you think you may be eligible can be found on the following webpage –
https://www.glasgow.gov.uk/article/5505/School-Travel-Assistance
We would like to encourage all families who believe they are eligible to apply. This will also help to alleviate some of the road traffic issues we see at the beginning and end of the school day.
P3a Weekly update
Last week was week 2 of our active play and again we had lots of fun keeping active outdoors, enjoying the lovely weather that we had.
We also began a new block in our creative play area. Our focus just now is European countries. Some of the activities we worked on as part of this was to use the Lego to try and recreate some famous landmarks, made a Picasso inspired face and used an atlas to identify some of the main countries in Europe.
Finally in art we created some aquatic inspired mosaic pictures.

Keep up to date with Anna’s and the schools Community Development work on the Community Development section on our school website.
Hello, my name is Anna Byatt and I am excited to join the Wallacewell Primary School team. I am currently a year 3 student at The University of Glasgow, studying Community Development, which includes both classroom and placement-based learning. This year my placement is here at Wallacewell Primary School.
Throughout the duration of my course I have had the opportunity to experience placements in various sectors, organisations and locations – locally, globally and internationally. So far, as part of my University studies I have visited Belfast, India and this year plan to visit Kentucky to analyse how communities engage in different settings.
I am particularly interested in the educational aspects of Community Development. Education has always been a passion of mine, perhaps influenced from a young age by my Dad who is a primary school teacher, During my placement this year, my main focus will be on enhancing engagement with the school community and surrounding areas to help bring the community to life.
If you have any ideas for improving community connections within the school environment or even just to meet me for a chat, feel free to contact me via email. I am excited about embarking on my journey at Wallacewell Primary School!

A bit more about me – I am 23, I love to travel, I have a passion for sport, one of my favourite spots for a walk or run is Hogganfield Loch especially when I get to see the sunset across the water. I enjoy fun outdoor activities, particularly those that involve a bit of a risk! I consider myself a hands-on person, so the practical aspects of placement throughout my course suits my approach. I enjoy exploring the Community Development theories, ideologies and values and putting them into practice, which aligns closely with the educational values and ethos. I am a very sociable person, therefore working with people is the path I wanted to pursue as I have a passion for helping others find their confidence and the tools to empower themselves.
I look forward to meeting everyone and contributing to the Wallacewell Primary School community and improving community links going forward.
Working hard in P5b
Primary 5B have been learning to use different strategies to add increasingly larger numbers. They worked with a partner and individually completed some jotter work to learn.
P5b used many skills to create something that could make a journey. On Thursday it was terrific to enjoy a PE lesson outdoors.
Primary 1a’s busy life
Primary 1a have had a successful and busy start to primary 1. Not only have they been learning new sounds each week but they have been recognising numbers to 10 through fun counting activities and subtitizing. They have also extended their learning to the playroom where they are developing skills in collaboration, turn taking and sharing through our recent topic about dinosaurs.
Primary 1a Class Charter
Primary 1a worked together to discuss what was important to them to feel safe, happy and to learn in school and created their own class charter around these ideas. These skills and the rights that they have recognised will help them in the classroom and the wider school community.
Play in P1c
The children have had a wonderful week engaging in their learning during their time in the playroom. This week all play provisions supported development with challenges in STEM. The children worked so well together and challenged themselves too.
