Scottish Inventions!

As part of our IDL topic on Scotland, p6a have been researching famous Scottish Inventions!

We found that Scotland actually had a lot of inventions over the years! Some of them we didn’t know about. Here are just a few of the ones we discovered :-

  • William Cullen: Artificial Refrigeration (fridge)
  • Alexander Cumming: The “S-trap” Flush Toilet
  • John Logie Baird: The Television
  • Alexander Graham Bell and the Telephone.
  • Robert William Thomson & John Boyd Dunlop: The Pneumatic Tire
  • Alexander Fleming: Penicillin.
  • Kirkpatrick Macmillan – The pedal bike
  • David Brewster – Kaleidoscope
  • James Clerk Maxwell – Colour Photography

We took a note of the year all these inventions and created our own timelines!

Our November Maths challenge was a huge success with everyone improving on their score from October.

Spelling tests were fantastic and we are all doing well with our new reading books. Our reading circles are starting to produce some AMAZING quality work.

P1c Weekly Update

This week the children have been working very hard learning in the classroom and rehearsing their Nativity songs too. In Health and Well-being we are continuing our PATHs program learning all about uncomfortable emotions. In Numeracy the children challenged themselves to find all the different number bonds to 10. The children also had a visit to our school library and got to pick a book to keep from the Book Swap as part of our schools Scottish Book Week celebrations.

P5a this week

This week we were exploring weather in creative enquiry and conducting different experiments, making rainbows and rain clouds was fun!  In maths we were focussing on multiplication strategies. In writing we were continuing to work on character descriptions. In topic we learned about astronauts on the ISS and in art we used oil pastel to create realistic representations of Saturn in Space. We have also been working hard on improving our handwriting this week. It was also the first week of our fun 51 masterclasses, which were good fun.

A very busy week for P5b

Everyone in the class worked very hard this week and have produced a lot of work. In mathematics we have been concentrating on learning about Time intervals and dividing large numbers. Many of the students have made a good effort to learn the multiplication tables as this is a great advantage when completing division sums.
We are writing a short story about an Alien and this is going very well with detailed descriptions of a planet in a far away galaxy. P5b have drawn some great illustrations to help them describe this unknown planet. Our PATHS lesson involved listening to a partner. With STEM everyone is enjoying the Weather activities.

This week in p7b

Everyone enjoyed PE and demonstrated some healthy competitive behaviour showing off our skills.

We started our new topic in maths on fractions, decimals and percentages.

Preparation of our Burns songs are well underway.

Expressive Art Extravaganza

Primary 1a have had a busy week learning how to add two numbers using cubes.

They worked with our music tutor to sing and play along to Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer in a ‘ragtime’ style.

They also joined a draw along with famous illustrator Axel Scheffler to create their own Gruffalo character.

In addition to this, they have been learning to perform our nativity songs and were very excited to learn their parts.
