This week in p7b

We loved having the coaches from Achieve More this week for PE. Everyone got so invested in jump the river. Miss Stevenson has never seen us try so hard to do something.

Our research into the life of Robert Burns is getting underway ahead of our assembly next term.

P6a Weekly Update

🔤Literacy – this week in writing we continue to work on characterisation, comparing characters by their personalities, actions and how they communicate. We focussed on the characters of Miss Honey and Miss Trunchbull from the novel Matilda.

🧊Maths – we have continued to explore shape during our maths lessons. This week we looked at 3D shapes and thought about how they are formed and what real life objects they relate to.

🎵For music we have enjoyed developing our skills on the glockenspiel. This week we were practising the song ‘Jingle Bells’. It was quite tricky to keep in time but everyone had a lot of fun.

Fundraising for the Beatson

Dear Families,

Some of you may know that last year we started fundraising for the Beatson Cancer Charity. Cancer impacts so many of us in different ways. The Beatson offer outstanding care and support to those affected by cancer. At our Christmas Fayre last week we raised £170 for the charity. For the second year running Wallacewell Primary staff and our Parent Council will also be taking part in the Santa Dash in Glasgow this coming weekend to raise money for the Beatson. Please help us to raise our target by clicking on the link below to donate –

Every little counts and everything is very much appreciated. Thank you in advance. 🧑‍🎄🎅🏻.

Time

P2 pupils did amazing work this week learning about time. Boys and girls are now able to tell the time for o’clock, quarter past, half past and quarter to. This is amazing so well done. They have also worked very hard on their Alice and Wonderland character descriptions. Keep it up.

P3a Update

This week we were focussing on non fiction books in reading.  We discussed the different features of them and how they can help us find the information we need.  We then continued on in writing using our senses to describe a setting.

In maths we were working on our multiplication strategies.  We used arrays and grouping to help us find the answers as well as being able to skip count.  We will continue to practise these to improve our recall.

Our topic just now is Body Systems and that has been our focus in our creative play area,  So far we have named some of the main bones in our bodies,  looked at our major organs and their function and learned how our eye works.

In Art we were using line and tone to draw a detailed eye and also had a go at some optical illusion art.

P1c weekly update

The children have had a jam packed week, filled with lots of learning, nativity rehearsals and time in the playroom. The children worked very hard to practise their letter formation. They enjoyed a ranged of literacy stations to consolidate their learning. In the playroom our new topic is Scotland. The children have been designing outfits for characters from the Katie Morag stories and loved ‘working’ at our own WWP tourist office.

Primary 3b

Primary 3 have been working hard this week.

We have been measuring in both centimetres and metres in maths lessons. We have also been using arrays and grouping to calculate multiplication equations.

We have looked at the bones in a human skeleton and labelled them. We also drew an eye, focussing on shading in our art lesson. They all turned out really well.

We have been continuing with our PATHS lessons and are beginning to practice using our calming down strategies when feelings are strong.

As a class we have identified that we are not great at listening. So we will be focussing on listening skills. We have already established what a good listener looks like and will be putting that into practice next week.
