September Begins in P5b

This week the pupils  in P5b produced some interesting recount writing involving the Iron Age. They pretended that they had lived in Scotland during this period. This has helped P5b imagine life in Pre-historic Scotland , just before the Roman invasion.

It was great to see so many adults at our open afternoon on Thursday. We have enjoyed embedding our PATHS programme in school.

FUNDRAISING AT WALLACEWELL PRIMARY WITH ASDA

Dear Families,

We’ve got some exciting news to share with you!

Parentkind, a charity that supports school communities, have teamed up with Asda, who is making millions of pounds available to donate to primary schools across the UK through their ‘Cashpot for Schools’ initiative. To support our school, all you have to do is opt-in through the Asda Rewards app, shop and scan in store or shop online at Asda.com.

Between 2nd September and 30th November 2024 – every time you shop with Asda using your Asda Rewards app, Asda will donate 0.5% of the value of your shop to your chosen Primary school. Also, every time somebody opts-in to support our Primary school, Asda will give an additional £1 to the school Cashpot. Plus, it doesn’t stop there – Asda are also giving £50 to every school to get them started.

It’s as easy as 1,2,3
1. Download the Asda Rewards app, register and opt-in to Cashpot for Schools. Make sure you have the latest version of the app installed.
2. Choose our Primary School. Either searching by name (Wallacewell Primary) or postcode (G21 3RH)
3. Shop instore across Asda and George, or online at Asda.com and start filling your Cashpot as you shop

Asda does the rest, all money raised will be donated to our school to spend on the things we need the most.

Remember, anyone can sign up – so start spreading the news and raising funds for our school.
This initiative is on top of the existing Asda Rewards benefits you get as a shopper – so you won’t lose out on any of your own earnings or Cashpot, so everyone is a winner!

JRSO

This week the two new JRSO attended an induction meeting at Glasgow City Hall. They were very impressed with the venue and are looking forward to involving Wallacewell Primary in some new projects. They will promote Road Safety in and around our school this year.

This week P5b have been learning about Iron Age Scotland. Everyone has created their own character, roundhouse and described the daily life of a family in prehistoric Scotland. P5b have achieved a great deal in a short time.

They have continued to learn about Place Value and revise their addition skills. We have started the novel The Titanic Detective Agency and written a factual account of life in Iron Age Scotland paying attention to punctuation and extending each sentence.

keep up the good work P5b

P3a Art Success

Our under water scene scratch art was a fantastic success and we are all really pleased with the results.

We then continued our topic by working with a partner to discuss and sort different animals in to those that live on land, those that live in the sea and those who live on both land and sea.

We were working hard again on our place value this week in maths and have now all began our new reading books. These will be taken home each night.

P3a First week back

Last week we were learning about place value in maths and completed lots of different activities to show we can identify and make different numbers.

.

We also began our Under the Sea topic.  We are now able to names the 5 different oceans and where they are on a map.  At the end of the week we started making some wax scratch pictures.  Firstly we coloured our piece of paper with brightly coloured crayons and then covered it in black paint.  Next week we will scratch off some of the paint to hopefully produce some colourful under the sea art work.  Look out for our finished masterpieces later in the week.

P5b busy workers

This term we have started to learn about Iron Age Scotland at the time of the Roman invasion. The children have designed their own roundhouse and worked together to make a hill fort in groups. It was good to see them working the layout of their fort as a group.
